Who is going to buy a caliber srt4? I am considering it, so here it is:

i am considering one for my first car in two years. I dont have a permit or anything and i am already a dodge guy.

I think they'll be just as bada$$ as the srt-4, but they are both too small for me to drive daily...

I'm an "other". I am considering it, but I already have sxt, so don't know. It would mean that I lose my 2500 for it, but may be willing to do so. I really want a magnum/charger/300, but am on the fence.

I will have to wait and see the reviews of them. On the other hand I would like to be the first to have one.

Has anybody actually figured out when they are going to hit the showrooms?

Coming from an srt-4 owner...... uck.... i think the caliber is weak... the srt edition better be really really bad ass. and anyone looking to buy one should wait till year number two.. Trust me dodge will put an AWD system in them it's just gonna take a few years.... plus the horsepower ratings where receantly decreased to that of almost a mildly modded neon srt..... i dunno there has been so much hype and they WTF they where never released? due to more "testing" IF they ever come out i will go drive one just to beat on it. but the colume shifter is also hella weak who the **** shifts on the dash... hella honda ...

just my 2 cents

Well I am a big guy and would like to have one. Sat in one at the auto show. Love to have an srt4 with 300hp and all the features flashlite, cold box, and boston acoustic sound. I think the Calibur was a definite good replacement for the neon. Much more function and style for the money. But i want performance with an auto and AWD would be a plus but I highly doubt their AWD system is designed for that kind of power and to develop a new AWD system well forget it now with the Big Sale. It's not the early 90's anymore where most everyone had a performance awd vehicle. Hell even GM made one and it was the best in my opinion. Big turbo, big motor, option of truck or suv, 300 hp, awd, 700r4 tranny, 3.42 gears, ran 13's stock back when corvettes ran 14's and trans ams ran 15's. Anyway if they make it great I might consider getting one if there is an auto version.

Oh and SCA there are a lot and I mean alot of people that feel the same about the Durango...I love em I have had 2 an 04 hemi and an 05 awd 4.7 but the fact is alot of people don't like the gen ii D. They call it a Van a soccer mom car. Fact is the calibur isn't big enough for a soccor mom.

And the compents a vehichle has determins weither it's sport minded or not. The way it looks or appeals doesn't.

My wife likes the SRT-4 Caliber. I think it looks OK, but underneath it's another poorly engineered Chrysler product. Look at all the production delays. After they put "band aids" on all the shit that they didn't properly engineer to begin with, they'll put the thing on the market and there will be more recalls in the mailbox than your mailbox can hold. Don't accuse me of getting on here to bash Chryslers, I own a Dodge Dakota and I guess I like it, but I have really begun to see why Chryslers are considered by many to be a the bottom of the barrel.
I'm steering her away from it, she'll get a Toyota or Honda something if I have anything to say about it.

As a Mopar-head I'm looking at this, a VW GTI, and a Civic Si Sedan. Right now, leaning towards the GTI, but it's the only one I've driven and seen up close. The torque steer problem kind of worries me. I'll definitely be driving one as soon as my dealer gets one in.

Motor trend just did a test on it and it pulled a 5.9 0 to 60 with a 14.4 1/4... Kinda weak it you ask me. I thought it would be much faster considering it was advertised as having 70 more horse than the srt4 neon, but will still lose a race to one.

How much heavier is it with all of the air bags and safety crap added on...

hemi1569
09-30-2007, 04:06 PM
249lbs heavier than a srt4 neon...
12psi boost at sea level
can attain 15lbs at high altitudes
mitsubishi td04 turbo air to air intercooler
max torque available from 2000 to 5600rpms
max hp from 5700 to 6400 rpms
6 speed getrag gearbox with a dual mass flywheel, has a cable shifter like the base caliber(how cheesy is that)
14.4 at 103 in the 1/4
top speed is 155,

a srt4 tested in april 2004 posted better numbers:
5.3 to 60
13.9 at 103 in the 1/4
caliber srt4 is 3233 pounds
takes 175 feet to stop from 70mph
They say it has severe understeer

Only 249 lbs heavier though... With an advertised 55hp advantage, and with 265ft/lbs of torque at 2000 rpms, it should more than make up for it.

yea but most srt-4 owners have shaved off some wieght too. idk it looks cool for a suv/van, but i cant see paying 27k for it. if it was awd and didnt get delayed so much theyd sell better im sure.

I have seen, driven the CSRT4. I hear it is restricted in performance for the first 500 miles and then a second wake again after that. I drove the dealer car with respect. No boost due to it had only 27 miles on it and I knew someone would be buying it and deserved to break it in his self. I did order one and I hope someone does not beat it for me. I say the SRT guys give us the best they can with the money guys tying their hands and holding what they can do back. AWD may be in the future. I believe the CSRT4 will hold it own and speak for itself as it breaks in and opens up. That is why I bought one. It is heavier but feels solid and I bet it will really come on from 45 mph and up. Just my thoughts and prediction

I test drove one and it's a rolling piece of shit. Everything about the car is completely awesome, as long as it's sitting still. At 80mph the car was shaking so bad that I couldn't take my hand off of the steering wheel to shift. I also hit the fuel cut in a few gears at WOT because of the insane amounts of torque steer. This car is deadly, if my first impressions of Dodge came from driving this car, then I wouldn't be here right now. Seriously, this car is terrible to drive.

It weighs a whole lot more then the srt-4 neon. so the extra HP isnt that big of a deal It also matters where in the powerband the hp is.

Its hard to tell what a car realy looks like when all you can see is the tail lights. pulling away. J/K

If old school thought still holds true every 100 lbs is about a tenth off of the et. so that equates to 1/4 of a sec. and that is a life time in drag racing.

I now own the CSRT4. It does NOT shake at any speed. Power is really good. Torque steer is there but not THAT bad. It does not rip the wheel from your hands but rather feels like the front is skateing some. There are no power jumps at 500 or 1000 miles. It shifts great and I would guess it has more than 285HP. Seeing some dyno graphs it puts down between 260-280HP depend on whose test you look at. Mine pulls HARD from 40mph all the way.

I tested another one and it did not. After talking it over with the salesman, the car I originally drove was sold and then arrived for warranty work later that week. It was some sort of glitch. This is a nice car, though I don't know if I would buy one, just because I would rather have a V8 and Dodge is good with those :D

My friend has one in the car club, and it is just EVIL looking. It may not be "as fast" as the NSRT4, but it's no slouch, and for the money it's a great performer.

If I were wanting a car, it would be very high on my list.

stock for stock NSRT vs CSRT the neon won...however it was more aerodynamic than this brick with a turbo LOL I like the looks of it however I do not like the stability of it at higher speeds. I previously owned an 05 Neon SRT4 and it was very stable. It seems that the new suspension or whatever they changed isnt as superior as the Neon version. My buddy had one and it was pretty nasty with a resonator delete and a 50 shot....he could hang with bolt on LS1s. he tried to race me in my LS1 but he was no match...it wasnt a complete murder but I did shut it down after i was out 3 cars...however my LS1 is no bolt on car :)

I really was hellbent on buying one. I like them however I did some researcch and it appears that the suspension engineering needs corrected.

apparently its too much hp for the suspension and should be AWD which will cut back on the gas mileage too.

then someone I know has one and they love it and said if you dont kick in the turbo you get 30 mpg with it.

I would be kicking in the turbo all the time

lol

I still want one and I believe as long as its under warranty i should give it hell and get all the bugs out. plus Chrysler has a cool offer rightnow for 2.99 a gallon gasoline for 3 years!

I thought long and hard about whether or not I would purchase one and I have come to the conclusion that I will not. I've decided to purchase a Mercedes E 350 instead. I've always wanted one and now that I can afford it I'm gonna spoil myself. But I do think the Caliber Srt 4 is a pretty neat car just seems a little heavy. Not sure what the difference in weight is between the Caliber Srt 4 and the Neon Srt 4.

As I have posted on another topic-thread here, My wife had a 2003 PT Cruiser-GT Turbo with an "AutoStik" tranny and she LOVED it...

She also LOVED the pep of the Turbo-2.4 liter rated @ 224hp...

The Caliber-SRT4 has a 6spd mannual if I am not mistaken, and the wife does NOT do well with a clutch...

THAT is why I wish that Dodge would offer the Caliber-SRT4 with an "AutoStik" option...

If they do, we will likely buy her a Caliber-SRT4 with in the next 9-24 months....

IF Dodge does NOT, we will more than likely look @ the Chevy HHR-SS or a small SUV/Crossover to satisfy my wife's future automotive wants and needs...

If I have a depressing day, my drive home always raises my spirit. It's a blast to drive, has a very good crash test rating and there are lots of after market products on their way. I just turned in my Hemi Ram 1500 on Sept 30 for the Csrt-4.Best decision I ever made. This thing is a rocketship in bone stock form....And I still have room to carry some stuff around. And at almost twice the fuel economy.I'm averaging 25-27 mpg compaired to the hemi beast 10-13 mpg.It does get up to 155 very quickly and it destroys many so called Quick cars out there that are way more expensive than this 21k dollar wagon...

My 03 SRT 4 didn't seem to turn as fast as my 87 Daytona Shelby Z, maybe just me...performance was great tho..One thing that was always a blast, I have some of the steepest highway hills around in Northwest Arkansas, Southwest Missouri, my SRT 4 didn't need any downshifting at highway speed, torque is what you get from these turbo cars, without the Honda, Mazda RPMs. How does the Caliber SRT 4 stopping distance compare to the Neon SRT? My SRT 4 stopped fast, almost as good as a Viper, as I remember. The SRT 4 Neon didn't really crash test too well, so that is where they improved alot. Is the insurance in line on the Caliber? I've heard some side curtain cars cost alot for insurance...oh well, maybe down the road, after a trip or two accross the pond

wanago: 21 grand?! You must have got no sun roof (the thing I would care less for) like $795 option, if they even make them without now. Wonder what the new SRT-4 rpm are at 65, or 75 mph? Not much less mpg then the wimpy 2.0....too bad the trade in value of my 07 Dakota would suck now, I should really busy myself with my Daytona Shelby, quite thinking new cars! sucks you can't get any lifetime warranty on the SRT 4 tho, maybe they will retune the RT's non turbo 2.4, so you can get a bit more power, and that warranty

Went to the dealer today, found a srt4 caliber(red) 26,475 sticker, sunroof, kicker package, the little 0-60 cluster package... 21,999 sale
brought in my truck all dirty
guy threw me the keys
Drove it easy, let it warm up, wanted to see what the car was all about, did not care so much about power, we all know it has it.
Handles very nice, quiet, reset the mpg meter on thruway and was getting 29mpg at 60 mph in 6th gear. Didn't rev over 4k, didn't really want to beat it but the torque was pretty good.
Guy said he would give me 10,500 for my truck, and have my payments under 200 for 72 months...

Not knocking the Ram...I just like this so much more...http://www.feoa.net/modules/Coppermine/albums/userpics/11393/normal_084.JPG

Cool looking car! Do you have the 6 speed as well & do you have an estimate on your mph and 1/4 mile time. :rck:

I read in Automotvie Dealer news this week that the Srt4 caliber has been dropped for the 2010 model year and won't be coming back.

I would like to get one its's good for me but my wife is short & at the carshow her knee's & legs were hitting the lower panel underneath the steering wheel! She loves the look & all but hates that has no comfort level.

I don't like it when my knees hit as that sucks. I have the seat all the way back in the Durango and I'm perfect. :D
