stand back

I need to RANT :soapbox:

Let me start off by saying, I check my tire pressure at LEAST once a month, and I'm not a "curb bouncer" - also, I don't use my tires as a curb feeler to see how close I am for parking ...

I obviously don't take my van off road (I don't even live on a road that is not black topped ...) Ok Ok, I DO live in the capitol of potholes, but ...

and I clean my vehicles (usually hand wash) at least once a week = TIRES included ... YEAR AROUND

I rotate them on a regular basis (as per manufacturers suggestions)

I do most of my driving around town, with a shot up and down the Interstate at least once every other week ... so I NEED a decent set of tires ...

************************************************** *******

I don't know what experience you have had with Michelon's, but I'm on my last set :booty:

Over my span of years of driving (over 30 years now) this is my 3rd and LAST set

Two vehicles I bought had them on there already, and my brother in law ranted and raved so much about them, when it was time for new tires, I decided I'd try them one more time

Now mind you, I'm not talking about buying used tires, or recaps

these are NEW tires ...

Every time I've had these craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppppy tires, I've had bad luck with them ...

my current van is on the LTX M/S series tire

never mind they are rotten for traction after the streets are wet

but what REALLY sets me off is:

the way they wear out !!!!!!!!!!!! :buttkick:

Let me also say this: I bought them from a local National chain (Discount Tire)

even the guy that sold me asked me - what in the heck happened to your tires ?

The side walls have weather-checked side-walls ... and CRACKS

The sidewalls look like someone who has a bad case of chapped lips ... to the point that in 2 or 3 places, a almost squared looking piece of sidewall rubber was MISSING (all about the size of a pencil eraser)

and there are cracks up AND in the tread area .... pretty bad for just 2 year old tires ....

On one previous set, I had belts prematurely break, and it looked like my tire had a tumor sticking out of the sidewall ... AGAIN without bouncing off curbs ... (can you say, recall ?)

And the first set .. I thought just wore down fast (they were not LTX tires, but they were Michelon's) and that was before my hot roddin days ...

I'm tellin ya = THATs IT :VHOT: :VHOT: :VHOT:

I don't care if I'm shopping for a new or used vehicle, if it has Michelon's on it,

thats the deal breaker for me ...

there ....

I'm better

Mercy.
All this about Michelins?

The Michelin LTX M/S has been a fantastic tire for me, both previously on my old '96 Grand Cherokee (damn thing was a billy goat with them; no other tire I tried came close) as well with my work truck now ('05 F150). Best ride in the business in that tire type category IMO.

If not for the price difference, they would also be on my Ram (20's).

I got to wonder if there are external reasons why they're giving you bad service. Road treatments getting to them perhaps?

I've heard that same story from a couple of people

must just be my tire luck

I had Firestones on my van, but I didn't have it long enough to go through the life of the tires.
I put about 10,000 mi on them with no problems.

What kind, if any, tire dressing do you use?

I surprised that you got those at Discount Tire.

Discount Tire has a brand called Arizona. I got those on my B1500. They are a great set of tires. I'm going on the second year with them without any issues.

Arizonan Silver Edition XL, P235/75R15 XL M+S, 108S (Discount-Tire in M!CHIGAN)

I've put those tires through some hard towing and hot highways while towing on the road. They hold up very well.

My sister years ago had Michelin's on her 1978 Mustang. She had problems with them back then. I've never had to deal with Michelins personally on any of my vehicles.

To bad there is no Discount Tire here in WNY. I had to drive to M!CH!GAN to get them, but they are just down the street from family that lives there. :)

I got a set of 4 cheap $60.00 Uniroyal Liberator tires for my 1994 Dodge Van about a year and a month ago and they are doing pretty good for me as they have 9/32 tread left. They have a 50,000 mile warranty on them so they need to last until at least 120,000 miles at the least although I don't think its going to happen as we will be probobly replacing them at 100,000 as we are at 92,000 now. Still it only costed like $300.00 for them and that includes free balance and rotation from Wal-Mart which was a deal I could just not pass up.

gower = glad those tires are working out for you

stev = the guy at Discount told me about those tires a couple days ago = he said I could get 4 for just about the price of 2 Michelons

Dually = to be honest, I haven't used much tire dressing on these tires at all (less than once a month, and that was Summer time only - usually use ArmorAll)

thanks

Take a look at the inside sidewalls (backside of tires). If they aren't cracked then it was the ArmorAll that dried the rubber out on the outside and cracked them. If the inside is also cracked disregard my theory. I had the same thing happen to a set of BFG T/A's on my show van and I was told it was caused by the stuff I put on my tires all the time. The outside was cracked everywhere and the inside sidewalls were perfect.

I appreciate the thought, but its on both sides

thanks anyway

I had heard of that happening before, but I used all sorts of tire dressings on my Ram truck (different brand of tires, but ...) and never had that problem

thanks for the tip tho

Those Arizona's should serve you well and the price seems right. :) :) :)

What kind, if any, tire dressing do you use?

I prefer Bleu Cheese, but sometimes Ranch is good.

Personally I love my Yokohame Avid S/T's. I bought a set two years ago and they barely show any wear. The downside is that they are kind of a performance tire and aren't designed to haul heavy loads. Since I don't tow with my van (the '94) or carry heavy loads, they're perfect for me. I got mine at The Tire Rack.

This reminds me years back in the VW campmobile with Michelon tires. We had one blow out in the sidwall, put the spare on and it went flat a few miles down the road and were greated by the state police (before cell phones were affordable) and he asked what our problem was and my dad replied "we ran out of spare tires" .. He called us a tow truck who towed us to the michelon tire dealer who disputed the mileage on the receipt... Last set for us.
Also I have heard and experienced bad things with AmorAll so I have used Formula 303 protectant or nothing at all. When I drove more often I would were tire out be for the dissingrated into cracks.

I never had good luck with michelon tires, Every car or truck i had them on, the belts broke before the tire was worn out.

I've now heard from several former Michelon owners who had the exact same problem I did ....

my old Michelin's cracked like hell too. i don't remember the model #, but they were 45k or 60k tires.

I filed a complaint and they basically said they would replace 2 of the bad four, if I paid for installation and balancing BUT I had to take 2 more of the exact same tire

when these go, I'm not sure what I'll go with
