Hello, a buddy of mine is looking at an 85 Ramcharger, but he doesn't know anything about them, and neither do I. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips of what to look for when we go check out this truck? Any common problems or indications of problems to check? Any information will be appreciated. It's an 85, with a V8 (dont know which one), 4X4. Also would you guys reccommend one of these to a 20 yr old with little income? Besides horrid gas mileage, are these easy to maintain, etc?? Thanks!

As far as the engine, see what carb it has on it. If it's a 318 and a two barrel carb with a little computer box on the side of the aircleaner, offer less money. These are the computer controlled Carter BBD's and you'll want to replace that and not try to fix it as these are notorious for running terrible. If it's a 360 engine you're good, as these aren't the computer controlled "leanburn" setup and probably will have the legendary Thermoquad carb. Put it and drive and see how much the rear end clunks(most will clunk a little) and if it's 4x check the front driveshaft for up and down play at the slipjoint. These are straightforward to maintain (a 1/2" wrench fits 80% of the bolts on these things!) and parts are dirtcheap.

well on the dodges most of them the doors, rocker pannels and the floors are rusted out if this truck has that you do not want to buy it it's a pain in the butt to fix the stuff like that i went through it. It very hard to find non rusted parts around my area. And the automatic transmissions are junk they are always going out if your going to beat on the truck or work it like a tuck is suppose to be.
