I have 105 k on my 97 cargo van it runs great, but was wondering some good tips or old thread that would result in better gas miliage. I think i get about 15 around town. I have heard that some of the newer engines get better gas miliage, I would rather stay with a 6 cylinder. Thanks for any help. Joe in N.C.

Joe,

You are doing well for 15mpg average around town. I've not broken beyond 16mpg in some time with our V6 3.9L.

15mpg in city driving is pretty darn good for a V6 full-size van. What kind of highway mileage are you getting? I'd bet close to 20mpg.

My math was fuzzy, it's actually more like 12 or 13 around town, but once I got 15. Are there any Dodge Cargo vans that get better miliage. Thanks, Joe

Honestly I don't think you'll get much better than that. You might be able to a few more mpg's if you go to the "short" van (109" wheelbase) with the V6. What do you have now?

The Sprinters get decent fuel mileage, but I've read on here that some of the owners are not happy with the reliability of the turbo on the diesel engine.

my 3.9L gets ~13 in town, ~15 on the highway.

highest i ever got was 18.5 on the highway. i must of been going downhill the whole way with a tailwind, lol.
