Did a search on this site about the clock spring problem (no horn/airbag light on). I noticed that some of you guys went to the dealer and they resolved the problem with no charge regardless of how many miles is on the van. Well my van has about 115K and the dealer refused to replace the clock spring under the recall  Does anyone have any suggestions? Any data I can provide to the dealer so they won't just turn me away? What I am going to do is try another dealer but would like some information to provide. If I have to bite the bullet and replace this myself does anyone have any write ups on how this is done. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Here is a copy of the TSb that was issued in nov. 2002
Note: vehicles involved in this TSB have a lifetime warranty on the clockspring
that dealer has to replace it under warranty

you will see the same information as above in the TSB

print this out and show it to them

this file i am providing you with is the exact same one your dealer has so there is no denying it on the dealers part

NOTE: This isn't just a Chrysler recall, it's a National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration recall. Tell your dealer if they don't do it for free, you'll file a complaint with the NHTSA, a complaint with your state Attorney General's office, and also hold them responsible if you have any accidents involving the air bag or clock spring mechanism. Bottom line, they don't have a choice on this one. If they still don't budge, do what you threatened and then call the Chrysler 800 number and tell them you want it fixed NOW!

One other thing, if you pay for it to be done, simply turn in the receipts to the Chrysler for reimbursement. Thought, it might be easier to find another dealer. I just had mine done, no questions asked! It fixed my horn and cruise control.

About the only way it wont be replaced is if the code for drivers squib circuit open isnt there...ya its lifetime but, and this depends on the dealer, going by the letter on the recall....step 3 (over 100k by the way) check for drivers squib circuit open if its not there then the dealer doesnt have to replace it. In fact they prolly wont as the clockspring is one of the few recall parts DC will ask to be sent back for verification and chargebacks to the dealer....yay DC

If its under 70k miles then ya it just gets replaced...

Not that I get any in that dont get replaced...suckers are always somehow broken :dunno:
