Hi -
I have recently acquired two B-series Dodge vans - a 1974 Tradesman 200 and a 1972 Tradesman 300. Both are afflicted with the same problem - the heater control valve (vacuum assisted) has either been removed or is leaking. I am trying to find a replacement part. Any ideas? Part # is either H29-109 or R29-109. Thanks...

You may not be able to find a direct replacement anymore, unless you can find NOS parts.
I was looking on Advance Auto Parts (partsamerica.com) website and they have universal type vacuum heater valves. This may be the way you have to go.
You may be able to use something from the 80's.

Try rockauto.com. I have used them before and they provided good service. Even the delivery time to Canada was good; which is not always the case with shipments from the US. They seem to have a lot of parts for our old vans. They list a vacuum valve. Here is the link:
My '98 still uses a vacuum operated valve going to the heater core. Perhaps a newer version of that part could be made to work if you can't find the exact replacement?

Thanks to all who have given me info... the heater control valve has 4 connections, so I am guessing it is one equipped with a bypass feature; the non-bypass ones should work as well, right?

I don't see why you couldn't use a non-bypass valve. You'll have to change the heater hoses around a bit. Just make sure you place the new valve in the heater core supply hose. The exit hose will go directly back into the engine.

Thanks for the tip!

Is it similiar to the valve on the bottom of this page?

The heater control valve that I have is a bit different - I have 4 heater hose hook-ups (1 set for the heater core, the other set I believe is the bypass mode) and has the vacuum apparatus on top of a plastic canister; the hose hook-up are directly below... 2 screws mount the bottom to a bracket.

The typical name for this is a heater water valve. Does the dealer still sell this part you're looking for or can a newer water valve from a Gen-2 Ram Van work?
