Hey all. Just installed a new deck in my 97 and scored some free speakers from my brother. I'm looking to install them in the dash but there are no instructions in the Haynes manual for that upper panel. It looks like it just uses clips but are there any tricks/tips to avoid breaking tabs or clips and making my interior even uglier? Any advice is appreciated. Cheers.

just remove both 'A' pillar trims on either side of the windsheild and the top of the dash just carefully pry it up, its held in by a few clips

Also there is limited depth in those speaker openings so it is possible your speakers might not fit .

Yeah passenger side is not too bad but driver side is horrible
I installed Infinity 5010CS component speakers in mine and I ended up cutting into the air duct right below the driver side dash speaker, stuffed it with duct tape and threw in the speaker

Sweet, thanks for the advice. I'll get on it tomorrow. Along the same lines, has anyone put 6X9s in the "mid-panel" speakers? My brother (previous owner of the car) seemed dubious that they'd fit.

They will fit
I had pretty good sized ones in mine (3-way/big magnet), they are a little sketchy trying to get them into the opening but they will fit
