I reciently bought a used 05 dakota with a V8 HO, after warmup (usually 2 minutes) I head off out of my neighborhood never exceding 20 mph, granted I do not like to accelerate hard especially when not fully warmed up.

I have noticed that my truck seems to hunt between first and second gear when I pull out onto the main street upon moderate accleration, I can feel the truck pull foward in first, then upshift for a second and bog down, then downshift again and then upshift again after more speed has been obtained, all under a steady throttle. I know I am not pulling over 2500rpm when this happens. some days its worse than others.

I just feel like my shift points need to be extended, it seems to want to shift way too early on light throttle situations, especially when cold.

So my question is have any of you experianced this?

Thanks.

Do you have the option of selecting 2nd gear on the shift lever? If I'm in traffic I'll plunk'r down into 2nd. It'll eliminate the gear hunting. How many miles on the truck?

Thats why so many people put 4.56 in their Ram 1500's..
I think a 3.92 will do the trick in the Dak 4.7
We will see this weekend on mine..
