ok i dont have a neon.
it's a 96' plymouth breeze.
but im assuming the engine are the same...

I believe i have a bad egr valve. The car runs really rough at idle, but when i disconnect that vacuum hose it smoothes out.

There is a bunch of white smoke coming out the exaust... but i dont think it's a bad head gaskit because it doesnt run hot and there isnt any oil in my coolant.

How hard is it to replace that egr? and is it necessary?

second... what is that white smoke about?

oh ya, and the tach, and odometer doesnt turn on.

thank you!

Blocking it off isn't a good idea unless you have a PCM that does not recognize the egr. Other wise it will most likely run like crap! One thing for sure tho if you only block it off to see if the smoke clears up, you might be alright becouse if it does quit smokeing you know you got it and can replace it without worrying about buying the wrong part to fix it! It may also be a sensor. Good Luck! And let us know what you find out.

BTW: It's easy to block off your egr but not recomended with a stock PCM (ECM).

I blocked mine off in about 1/2 an hour. All I did was cut a peice of aluminum flashing to match the gasket on the block side of the egr. Cut it put it in place and bolt it back on. This way I can leave my EGR sytem on the car, and fool the inspection station so I have no problems getting a sticker. Again Good Luck.

ok thank you.

all i did was unplug the hose between the egr valve and the egr solenoid. the car's idle smoothed out perfectly and it runs great. except there is still smoke...
