I have a set of aftermarket driving lights that came with my truck. They each have 1 black and 1 white wire. This is one of the previous owners project that was started and never finished. He lost the wiring harness and instructions on how to wire it up.

I am just starting to learn a little about wiring. What is the proper way to wire these lights up and what gauge wire and amperage switch should I get?

Hey there
I love the old truck, looks awesome! Here is what I would do. Get yourself an accessory relay rated for at least 30Amp, and the pigtail. These are available at any parts store. The switch should be rated at least 10A. Also, get yourself a fuse holder rated for 20-30A. I would start with 20A fuses. Wire: 14 gauge is O.K to wire the switch, but try to use 12 gauge from the battery to the relay, and from the relay to the lights. Get some adhesive lined heatshink and Good connectors. Wiring: The fuse should be as close to the battery as possible. The relay does all the high ( +) power handling to the lights. The switch only uses low power to activate the relay, so the wire to and from it are lighter gauge. Remember- the switch has positive in and out, NO negatives! Doesn't matter which color you use for (+) or (-) at the lights, just use the same at both lights. Also, Please run all the grounds back to the battery whenever possible. Tried to make the schematic as simple as I could. Any questions, please ask.

Connect the 2 whites together, and then connect them to the positive side of the relay OUTPUT. Connect the 2 blacks together, and connect them to your grounding point.
