on my truck when u hit the gas hard or when u just start it, it wants to die, i found out whats causing this but i dont know why. its the little vaccum thing on the carb that pulls the choke back, when it starts it not pulling back, it like pulls sideways and jams up, so when ever i want to drive it i have to move it so its set straight, once you do that its fine untill u hit the gas hard and it screws it up again. i checked for vaccum leaks and the lines for splits or cracks and there all good.

so my question is why is it doin this, and should this little piece be replaced and if so whats it called?

thanks

It's called the choke pull-off. It's there to open the choke some when the manifold vacumn is high and let it close some when manifold vacumn decreases and engine load increases, such as when you put it in gear or blip the throttle. (It must be connected to manifold vacumn to work correctly.)
I assume this is a 2bbl from your description or a Quadrajet carb, because the Thermoquad carb has a combintion pull-off and mixture control unit.
It sounds like it maybe worn out. So compare a new one to yours to see if it acts the same.
