i wanted to drop my neon...what sort of springs should i purchase and can i place em over my stock struts/shocks? or would i have to change them. ive seen these springs called "coil overs" which is essentially what most neons have but according to the product descr. the height can be adjusted using a special wrench... you can find them on ebay and other auto websites.
lemme know what you think.
thx

ok cheap coil overs that go on the stock struts = shi t! if u want coilovers u need to get the ones that are the whole strut 1 piece and there awesome! but for basic lowering got with tein or eibach lowering springs u wont be able to raise it back up but will look good and ride decent... i still think lowering struts ( true coilovers are way better) or u could go with koni struts and a nice set of lowering springs! ( koni = $$$ though) just depends on the quality u want! ebay quality = crap ride quality... unless ur getting lowering springs! wat u pay for is wat u get!

I agree with 95moparracer! If you really want to lower it and still have a nice ride you will need to caugh up some dough! Mopar High rates with Koni adjustables will lower it some and it will handle like a champ! But you can expect to pay about $900 for the struts alone.
It's been proven that lowering a car (depending on the car) will not improve handleing.
A bone stock Neon ACR will devistate a lowered one on a road race. You only have 1.5 inches of suspension travel now. Thats not alot, and it's alot of the reason why these cars handle so well. Anything lower will hurt your performance on a 1st gen Neon. Just depends on what you want.

If ride quality is not a concern, see if you can find some used mopar high rate springs and put on some decent shocks. I had high rates with monroe sensa-tracs and the handling was improved 100%, but the ride was a little harsh at times.
high rates with Konis is a much better option, but it does cost some $$$$$$

Mine has so lowering springs on it now that might come up for sale or trade once I yank out the motor. They ride good on the highway yet are real stiff and great.

Q: What are the best struts for my neon?
A: Koni’s are the best, then KYB GR-2’s come next.
Q: How do I lower my neon without losing comfort?
A: You really can’t. Lowering your neon requires shorter, stiffer springs. The neon has very little jounce travel to begin with, so reducing it will make the ride more harsh.
Q: OK, I want to lower or better handling on my neon, what springs should I use?
A: There are basically two types of springs, linear and progressive rate. The more you compress a progressive spring the stiffer it will get, which are what most aftermarket springs are. Progressive springs leave you some comfort but still improves handling, while linear springs sacrifice comfort for superior handling. You have Mopar, Eibach, Dropzones, and Progressive’s to choose from. Remember that the Mopar’s are discontinued, but you may be able to find them at a dealer who might have them in stock.
Q: What about sway bars?
A: You can choose from Mopar, Eibach, or Suspension Techniques. All are good and will improve handling a great deal. Even stock sway bars will improve handling.
