What is the average MPG you are all getting with you Neons? Also, if you all measure it, what is the best ever mpg tank you have gotten? List engine, tranny, mods.
For me, totally stock, on the 98 5 speed, SOHC 2L, no AC or CC, summertime averages can go as high as 38 MPG, 75% highway miles, I have gone as far as 440 miles on a single tank. On a trip one October of several hundred round trip all highway miles, I could have pulled an honest 40+ out of it, but on the trip back, I had a 6'3" 220 lb friend with me, pushing 70+ MPH all the way, so, not so much luck.

 !!
I am shocked at the numbers you are all putting up. If my car even got close to less than 30 MPG, it would be out the door; I'd rather drive my diesel at 18-20 MPG than a little Neon at 30. I bought that car in April 04, $2,500 cash, at the time, gas was dirt cheap at $1.75/g. I saw the writing on the wall; I knew what was about to come, and that was way before Katrina pounded N.O. That car has saved me uncountable dollars in gasoline, at the time, I had my 1998 Ram 5.9L gasser.
Finally, I will say, this goes to show how these "know it all" engineers who design autos with their high-tech wizardry and computers are actually killing the mileage on these cars, to "reduce" emissions, as I see some of the newer model cars in your sigs with the less than good MPG #'s
I am dumbfounded :YUK:

I run 95-98 octane premium fuel here in Australia.
City running is generally 24-26mpg.
Highway is different. If I keep my foot outa it and coast along at 100-110 klms I have done nearly 650 klms to a full tank of fuel!
But like most ppl are saying its hard not to put your foot in it when u mod things a bit!
I was told the 400 gring cam I was gunna install was going to make the mpg drop by nearly 8 mpg! Might have to rethink that and use the comp 200 or crane 12!
Generally though if u put a nice exhaust on, cai, bigger tb, ported intake mani and headers an engine should be more efficient. Porting the head and lifting compression by decking a head should also make an engine even more efficient as it has to do less work for the power its putting out. Its just that we generally mate these changes with huge cams and lose the efficiency for greater hp!

110 octane fuel is race fuel ... 118 octane is also race fuel! 118 is real pretty ... its purple... and it smells real nice when it burns! also eats up spark plugs like a crazy!

110 octane is called Cam II Race Fuel. (around here anyway).
Our mileage has alot to do with our habbits! I run my car, it's not uncommon for me to break 115-120 mph. Never been no faster than 142 ish! LOL...........
I imagine I could pick up 10 or so miles per gal if id lay off it.

28 mpg on a oil burning, about to hit 170,000 miles, stock neon. Mostly highway miles.

So far the best mine has done is about 200 miles on a tank. This is completely stock and in dire need of a tune up. Have only owned the car for a couple weeks. The car having 150k+ miles on it doesn't help much either. I will repost after doing a tune up and adding a cold air intake to see what kind of improvement I see. Its also an automatic so it wont get quit as good economy as a stick.

The best i ever got was 42 imperial mpg(around 35 us mpg) I maintained 60 mph on a long trip. The average i get is 36 imp mpg(30 us mpg). The worst i got was 32 imp mpg(26.65 us mpg) That was highway over 70 mph with defrost on(ac comes on when you have defrost on and makes a big difference with little motors for fuel economy(about 4 mpg with my car). I have a 2002 dodge neon sxt 5 speed.

I find speed is a big factor with mpg for my neon. I get great mpg when driving 60 mph with no ac on. as soon as i go to 65 my mpg drops at 70 it drops again and i never did any tests after that mine is also a 5 speed and i do mostly highway driving with it. I remove my ac relay in the winter time and that helps my mpg you could try that if it is cold where you live or if it is damp. No matter what if you put defrost on whether or not you have the dial turned toward ac, the ac will come on.

yea same with my srt-4 i go a 90mile drive like once a month if i stay at 60 or right below and not pass ne one! take me like lil over an 1/8 of tank to get there i fi drive faster then 60 or pass wow take over a 1/4 a tank!
dodgeneonACR98

I notice the very same thing! If I drove my car normal it would never have to rev above 3 grand. Unless Im on the interstate then it runs between 3.5-4K@ 70 in 5th.
Driver habbits have alot to do with this.

yea lol if i dont lay into it at all a whole tank of gas i'll get like 25+ in town but i mean cmon its turbo i gotta get on it some times!

If I am at or below 1/2 tank I can guzzle up seemingly a 1/4 tank in under 10 miles!!!!!!!! Once these cars hit half a tank the bottom drops out! LOL I do understand 95moparracer, why have a fast car that never goes fast. :drivingz:

My best MPG was last July when the Neon got 31.1, with an automatic, K & N, and open exhaust (from cat back).
My worse was my last tank, 17.9, that is with 12.8 inches of snow and using the remote start.
The wife averages 22 MPG to and from work. The current mileage is 48,800.
