I'm planning on replacing my torque converter clutch solenoid
on my 1978 dodge stepside 4x4. ( 727 auto trans.)
I can't get a book that shows a blown up picture of an automatic
tranny like mine. The books show manual transmission pics but are
terrible for info on automatic transmissions.
Could anyone please tell me where it is located in relation to the
neutral safety switch?
How big a job is it to replace it?
I've taken the tranny pan off and my parts are coming in soon.
Thanks.

I talked to a tranny specialist and he said that my 78 doesn't have
a TCC solenoid and that it's purely hydrolic.
Guess the problem is elsewhere so please disregard my previous post.
Thank you.

I guess my question would by what are the symptoms you're trying to cure.

I'll try to make a long story short.
My truck was running great after I had just put a new starter in it that day.
The torque was great and I could spin my 37" BFGs on the gravel
very easily.
The next morning, I could barely get to work in it.
Everytime I would come to a stop, my truck would buck and shake
violently. When I got it up to over 40, it would run smooth.
If I put it in park or neutral at a stop, it would run fine.
Now as soon as I put it in drive or reverse, it will shudder , buck and stall.
In Neutral or park, I can manually rev it up, under the hood, working the
throttle and it runs great.
First advice I was given was that it was my torque convertor.
But does the torque convertor go bad overnight like that with no
previous symptoms?
It doesn't make sense.
Everything on the net pointed to the TCC solenoid as far as the symptoms go.
Now the specialist tells me that my 78 doesn't have one.
What else could it be?

Valve body... Or 1st. & reverse band

Also.. How does the tranny fluid look???
Nice & red or burnt looking???

The tranny fluid looks fine, maybe a little dark but doesn't seem
burnt at all.
Thanks for the advice!
