I have a 1996 Stratus ES. The AC pressure is correct, and the freon has just been put in, the compressor kicks on, but it blows just slightly cool air. This is after the car has cooled on the inside and the car and system have been running for several minutes. This happens in all fan speeds and fresh or recirculated air modes. There arent any leaks anywhere and the ac relay is good. What could be the cause of this 80 degree air?

My wifes 97 Intrepid just started doing the same thing. The shop I use told me it could be a vacuum leak on the vent door control between the heater and the AC. This lets the heat come through the vent and over run the cold. They also told me it would be big bucks for them to go under the dash to check it out. Hope to get under there this week myself cause there's nothing worst than an ornery wife.

Shouldn't be that big of a deal to get under the dash. Now that you've brought that suggestion to my attention, just start out by taking off the bezel around the radio/climate controls. There are just a few screws, 2 or 4, that hold in the controls. You may need to slip out the stereo, but make sure all your lines are tight and connected behind there. If nothing else, there's nothing to taking out the console, be it a 97 or the tray on a 96. Everything comes off easily. That's just a starting idea for you.

Thanks for the info on taking the dash apart. I know the shop I go to is real busy right now, so maybe telling me that it was expensive for them to do was just their way of saving me some money with out admitting it. Hope to get started on mine tonight.
