I have a 1972 Power Wagon D100, and it has the tool box built into the bed of the truck. Somebody told me that he thought only the 2500's had the tool box built into the side of the truck. Is that true, and do I have a special Power Wagon? It's the Adventurer Package if that helps. I've attached a pic for reference.

I have never done any research on the toolbox being built into anything... but, I have seen a 2wd dodge truck (74 i think) that is a 3/4 ton and has the toolbox built in.

i dont think any of these pickups will be worth much more because of a special edition like that though! lol

I'm NOT an expert on older PW's but I think I remember SOME of the adventurer package having bed mounted boxes. Mine was such a piece together frankenstein that I can't use it as a reference. I don't think the short box models had room for the boxes so maybe it was a long bed thing? It is always cool that you might have a unique optioned truck. :gr_patrio Good luck and I'm sure someone with more knowledge(NOT too hard) than me will chime in for you.

I'd say it's rare. Optioned as an Adventurer and a PW... let alone the paints color w/ the two tone, AND the factory tool boxes that arent completely rusted out.

That's just me though.

I once had a 76 1/2 ton W100 that had the tool box shown, but the cover (lid) was missing.

I saw a truck in the junkyard the other day that had the toolbox. It was a half ton extended cab, about a '75 model, I thought it was a short wheel base, but not for sure. When I go back I am going to look at it closer. I think it was an adventurer.

I had one on my '73, D100, but removed it when I restored the truck. It was an option in all long beds.

The designer didn't provide enough ventilation, and everything stored inside would rust.

GHS is correct, they were an option on the 8 ft beds. They were not part of any package that shows in the books that I have

Kinda off-topic, but have you guys seen the new '09 Ram w/ the Ram Box? The top of the bed sides open up to give access to tool/storage boxes. Pretty sweet looking. Too bad they body line don't match ours :(

I was in a consumer research group that evaluated those new storage boxes about 3 years ago. My comment at the time was that while they were handy, you could not use them if you install a camper, canopy, or the usual bed-mounted tool box.
