I have a 1974 W100 with the fuel tank behind the seat. I would like to remove it and put it under the bed. it has a fuel cap plug on the side of the bed like it was soon to have a tank under there. What year did they start putting it under the bed and is there any modifications required? t

Well, I doubt you'll be able to take the existing tank and mount it under the bed (Then again, I've seen stranger things..)
Which means you'll have to find all the hardware for a new tank... Tank (Big headache) filler neck, staps, and possibly a new sending unit...
Not to mention the big hole that's gonna be left in the cab.. ;)

I have the same truck and set up. I agree with bherder on moving the in-cab tank - no go.
I have done measuring etc on putting a Ramcharger tank at the rear of mine. I can't find anything that would prevent putting it in. My only problem is finding a good RC tank. p.s. I will be keeping the original tank as a secondary.

I agree with you both, the plan was not to move the tank, just put another one under it. let me know if you find one that fits and how it works. I am in Iraq right now so it will be another nine months before I can get to it. I also need to replace the seat. Anything you have done to your truck that me be a help to me would be appreciated. I've started some of the body work but the truck itself is quite sound.

Hey Witchdoctor, it may sound like a great idea, but I'll tell you why it's not...
(Unless you have no plans on doing any of the following, never mind ;) )
A 'side-rail' mid-tank (Plastic) or a rear tank (More than likely aftermarket, IF you can find one... unless you do what it takes to make a RC tank fit) are both a complete PITA.
Side-rail tanks are plastic, and while not real hard to find, it better be in good shape. The prob with this set up is, if you ever think of running a dual exhaust/headers, FORGET IT, unless you wanna spend a whole bunch of $$ having everything run to the passenger side of your rig... The side-rail tank completely blocks off anything running to that side....
A rear tank, you're running into the same prob, although not as severe. And that's IF you find a rear tank..... Even at that, you'll probably end up with an exhaust that has to come out, side to side, or all on one side, before the rear tires, because there isn't much anywhere else for it to go....
(In case you're wondering, my 79' PW has a side-rail tank and an aftermarket rear tank, so I know of which I speak... ;) )

Come back ALIVE brother!!!
I also need to replace the seat.
That's EASY stuff...
