Hey everybody, was trying to fix a flat today, but the cable that holds the spare didn't want to lower, any ideas on how to get the spare out without having to destroy thr butterfly nut that holds the spare secure? The lower/raising nut in the cargo area spins freely. Thanks for any advice

The raising mechanism pushes a wire rod that unlatches the catch for the "T" bar that holds the spare tire. The catch is rusted in place. Lots of rust penetrant sprayed on the latch and if you can get your hand up above the tire, pull and push on the wire that connects to the latch. Also, lift up on the "T" bar while you're doing that to take the tension off the latch. REally bad design. After you get the spare out, coat the parts with waterproof grease (marine).

I'll give that a shot RickMN, have to wait for it to stop snowing though. Won't be able to get my hand up there though, its snug against the floor.
