I just registered on here, and I need some serious help. I just recently aquired a 1964 dodge pickup with a 318 v8, and I'm having some top end speed issues. I've messed with the timing, changed the plugs and wires, and now I'm thinking that I might need to change the carburator. The carb seems a little small for this truck but I don't know if that is the problem. The CArb is a Carter Carb 0-2425. Thats the serial/model number that I got off of it. If anyone can offer up some sound advice I would really appreciate it. Hello to everyone, Merry Christmas and thanks for any of the help that can be lent.

You may have a 273 if it's the original engine. If so, they used mechanical lifters and may need adjustment. What problems are you having?

BTW, Welcome to DT!

Is this an A-100 pickup?

It's a 318, that I do know. I'm not getting any top end speed, but I figured out that that had something to do with the timing, and a loose linkage. Now I'm still not getting that much. With the timing set, the linkage fixed, I can't get on it all, if I do, it starts lurching and back firing. I think it's a carb problem. What do you think? Thanks.

Try a new fuel pump and a carb. rebuild.
