I have a 96 neon 5spd 2.0 sohc
my question is does any one know what would be causing my speedometer to work for about the first half hour then stop till its been turned off for a lil while? I've checked the connections on the cluster an replaced the speed sensor that goes in the transmission, any ideas? i drive this car to school 160 miles a day an hate when i am being followed by a cop an have no clue what speed I'm doing lol.

Sniper,
It may be something bad in the cluster. If, after trying everything else you can't remedy the problem, try buying a cluster off of ebay or get one from the junk yard. ($45-50 dollars) Or ask a buddy who owns a neon if you can use his long enough either to rule the instrument cluster out or pinpoint the problem.

This may seem far fetched to you all......But 4-5 years ago I singned up for DT and asked this very same question! No one could give me the right answer! Everyone said my guage cluster was bad. They couldn't have been more wrong!!!!!!!!
Check inspect and or change your alt belt!!!!!!!!! You may not think that it has anything to do with it but I can tell you from my experience (in my 98 anyhow) that it does make a diff. My speedo went crazy for a few months b4 I found the problem.
How I found it was by chance. I did a 60 mph downshift to 3rd gear and blew my alt belt clean off the car!!!!! I drove it for a total of about 40 miles on just the battery!
As I got closer to home I noticed that my headlights were getting dim, then my guages went nutz again. Anyhow I made it home, changed my alt belt and have had no problems since!!!!! Good Luck!
