Gas Guage Problems Can AnyBody Help

Hello All,
I have been having problems with My Fuel Guage reading right when I fill up its ok for a while then as the fuel gets lower. It acts crazy. I live 40 miles from my job and when I get in to go to work the guage reads 3 1/4 of a tank and 275 miles DTE then by the time i get to work it read almost on Empty and less than 50 miles Dte. then later when i am going home it reads just under 3 1/4 like it should and when I go fill up I have to keep enguage the pump over and over to get it full can anybody tell me whats up.
I also get a code 1494 from my onboard computer and the engine light is on

There was recently an article in the Chicago Tribune that said many people were having fuel guage issues due to sulfur in the gasoline affecting the slide contact. The article specifically recommended Techron II fuel injection cleaner but when I went to Autozone, they had both the older version and the newer one which was what the article had mentioned.

I had the 1494 code this last summer on my 97 T&C. I just finished out that tank (I had put some $h*@y gas in) cleared the code ran Conoco 92 octane and haven't had the code come back since.
