I had my fuel pump die on me. i have the car at a shop now and they want 550.00 to fix it, its an old 95 and i want to do it myself. I know the pump is in the tank. what i want to know is if there is any way to get at the top of the tank from under the back seat or anything like that. if i have to cut an opening thats fine with me i will just seal it back up when im done. or do i have to drop the tank and do it that way? I have checked the fuse and relay for that pump it just does not want to turn on. any ideas would be nice to have here. Thanks

I think you will need to drop the tank for that. Im not sure tho.Your best bet would be to get a manual from autozone on your car if you plan on working on it yourself. Good luck!

Well, you may be replacing more than the fuel pump if you cut through your unibody to get to the tank! That, I would highly NOT recommend unless you want to blow yourself up! lol
As I said in a different post, I've not had the privilege of dropping my tank on my neon yet but every tank ive dropped before on other cars and trucks goes like this, siphon the tank to reduce weight, center your floor jack under the tank, undo the straps that hold the tank to the body, use the floor jack to ease it down, watch for your fuel line and disconnect it and there may be a ground wire as well. Again, thats on other cars and trucks but I cant believe that its much different for the neon.

Ok i will give it a try but with a pump costing 200.00 on its own i think i will be driving the intrepid for a while. Thanks for the input.

WAIT!!!! Before you do anything, what they are trying to sell you is the entire fuel pump assembly. This requires you to lower your tank.
What you more than likely "need" is the fuel pressure regulator that is part of the assembly. I'm sure if you look around you'll be able to find the part number for just the regulator. It's a lot less expensive than the entire assembly and you don't have to drop the tank to replace it.

Actually, just realized you have a '95. If that's the original tank on there, then you might be SOL with my previous suggestion.
This is the piece I was referring to.

95 pressure reg is in the tank i think, and only 95. its also the only year with an inline fuel filter. 96 and up has a fuel filter/pressure reg combo that goes in the module on the side of the tank. the pump i looked at was 240.00 so id say your getting a good deal.its easy to drop tank and change, just make sure you open your fill cap and release pressure under hood with the valve. you could do it your self in 2 hours or you and a friend can do it in half the time. with somthing like that id say just get the whole assembly, because it wont be long before the rest goes bad and then your messing with all of it again. make sure you dissconnect the negative cable first on battery and get yourself a haynes manual. good luck.

Like already stated it is an easy job to do in the driveway.

LMFAO i was hoping no one said this yet damnit :P thats my suggestion u mise way get the bad ass one thats half the price and it will be to ur door in 2 days if u pay with credit or debit card. also on my 95 we didnt have to drop the tank for my fuel pump theres a 2ndary box thing with an external set up. from glance real quick seems as if my srt-4 is like this too... dropping the tank even if u do have to is easy... sifen if u have to but if ur already low on gas use a board and a good jack and undo the straps and then drop it pretty much all to droping the tank.
