Alright, my new trucks alternator is looking pretty shoddy, I want to install an electric Fan on the truck fo I'd like to beef up the alternator. By the looks of it it's a stock 70-75? amp alt. I think a 130a would do the trick, just where to get it.

First what is your truck? year, engine, etc. Since your in this forum I assume it is an older Dodge.
On my 88 Dodge the lowest rating was a 90 amp. Which should work just fine for electric fan. Second why an electric fan? You have an optional alt for the 88 of 120 amps. Now remember in the old days Police cars with all there lights etc. ran 90-120 amps. Chyrsler was the only one that built special alt for heavy duty use. The std for GM was 65 amps. Ford ran 60 amps. you could get alittle higher as an option. I think GM had a 75 and Ford an 80 amp. Chyrsler built I believe 120-130 amps for police, taxi cabs, heavy duty apps.

Chrysler had 5 alternators for 1989- Nippondenso:35/75amps, 40/90amps, and 50/120amps. Chrysler: 40/90amps, and 50/120amps. The Nippondenso's wer smaller in size, while the Chrysler's were bigger Old School size. All used the same sized, 2 belt pulley. The wiring in the book seems to be same for both, so it might be an easy swap to either brand. They all are regulated by the computer.

Don't know what year you have or engine?
In 1988 the standard alternator was the 35/75amp(Nippon) or 40/90amp(Nippon or Chrysler) and if you had the trailer tow, HD, or snowplow option it came with a 50/120amp(Chrysler). Other stuff may have been installed as the moronic parts pros behind the counter give people the wrong parts!
The 120amp would be a nice upgrade or you could go with aftermarket alternators with a lot more amperage...wiring changes required.
You can gat another alternator at the junkyard(?? does it work ok?) or get a rebuilt over the counter from the auto parts store, you may have to pay an additional core charge if you don't have the correct alternator to return.

Oh geez, sorry. It's a '91 D150 with a 318.

The nippon unit is smaller in diameter, but has a wider stator so it is longer from the pulley to it's back. Do to this it's mounted differently.
If you already have a nippon alternator you can upgrade to the larger one provided you also upgrade the wiring. The wiring diagram in my Haynes manual for Vans shows the charge cable connected to the battery directly with #6 gauge wire for the 120 amp alternator.
