i had to check 'em all. it's mainly a daily driver, but i also use it for Scouts (i run a Boy Scout troop; i carry gear), and as a work vehicle (home improvement projects, etc). however it is also my project vehicle, a work in progress. nothing too radical, just a slight pimpin'. ;) plans include tint, upgraded rims, sound system (already has the new deck, now it needs speakers), and some minor bolt-on goodies under the hood (tb, headers, ud pulley, roller cam/timing gears).
even with all that, after 67k miles it's still emaculate, and i plan to keep it that way. :)

I use my '95 for a daily driver and to haul band gear in. Next summer I may try camping in it.

We drive our '96 B-2500 every other day or so. It's the only one of three vehicles we own that fits the 7 of us (the other two being an 86 Samurai & 97 Ram Truck)
It also acts as an RV on long trips, we can sleep long driving nights and economize on hotel bills. We did camp in Yosemite using it to sleep 3, the rest used a tent.
I also tow with it - does a pretty respectible job, too.
So, mutipurpose is our usage - and now that I fixed all that stuff I was discussing with you all, it's been 3 very quiet months - driving the wheels off, enjoying lower gas prices and - no breakdowns !
Thanks guys ! David B. :)

Remembering that was what made me laugh when Nate said that....or the 10 clowns in the funny toy car...actually the Zuki back seat is so small, you have to step out just to change your mind......but the fuel economy is unbeatable

Our '03 Regency conversion is the wife's daily driver, but also serves as a tow vehicle for a 21' travel trailer. We camp 4-6 times per year.
The 318 tows well but I'm a little disapponted with the braking. I would have thought that 4 wheel disks and 2 piston calipers on the front would stop it a little better. Yes, the trailer has working brakes, but it doesn't stop very well when we aren't towing.
Otherwise it is a great tow vehicle.

I use my '90 B250 as a pit to throw all of my extra money into. It doesn't pay much of a return, but a $100 bill sticks to it like a magnet!!
Seriously, she's a rusty old van that keeps hobbling along, somehow. I don't drive it much, but since it's just a hollow cargo van it's a great place to keep household junk until it's time for a dump run.
My wifes thinks that I have completely lost my mind but I do have plans to restore the van into something that will reflect the time, money, sweat and frustration that I've put into it in the last 4 years.
This is my second B van. The first was a '75 B100 that I bought in Vegas then sold when I moved to Ontario after I married the sweetest girl in Canada. At that time I didn't know how to get around the required Ontario safety inspection...Lesson learned!
Boy, I miss her!

I love my '79 B200... It was inheritance from my grandfather so it's got huge significance. I've sworn never to sell it and I'm sure it will outlast me. It's completely stock at the moment, since I've just finally begun to restore it. It's got the 360 / 4bbl (grandpa had good taste) and the only current mods are removal of A/C and cut the exhaust off from the cat-back and dumped it to the side. The first thing I'm going to try to do is get a performance carb and intake, exhaust (headers, x-pipe, dual-cat, dual muffler, kick-outs in front of the back wheels, so long as I can work a deal with California) and then from there, suspension, body (not much to be done but replace 1 panel, front bumper, driver door, and then paint) and then interior. I'm very excited about this restoration and I will work on getting pictures up for those that would like to see as the process goes on...
Thanks for the technical help I've gotten, and for that I'm sure I will get in the future, guys.

I use my '79 B100 van for the dirtier jobs, like carrying yard waste, lumber, concrete block, scrap metal etc., but it had a proud history of ferrying my band & it's equipment (and groupies...) before I started my current job. It still has beautiful dark blue carpeted insides with such critical amenities as a white/UV fluorescent light and a quad Alpine stereo.
I'm in the process of restoring an '81 B250 Custom Sportsman maxi van for use for camping, fishing, and carrying my 20" telescope to wherever it's really dark. I'm going to wire AC power through it courtesy of my monstrous 1500 watt power inverter, so I can run my telescope's computers, and any other goodies which might make life cushy. The cooler is already in place. Fear not, I haven't forgotten the UV lights; they're easier than ever now that the low voltage cold cathode units are available for modding gamer computers!

Dadof6,
Great to hear that you're on the Ram Van forum. We have 7 children and a 12-passenger Dodge Ram Van. :)

If you get a tow hitch, think about towing and camping with a trailer. It's the best fun we're ever had with the entire family bunch.

Stev,
Shelby is a nice area, I have a brother there. We have actually been looking into the camper. We love to tent camp and have often freamed of stepping up to a towable. We found a 30' we liked before we got the dodge but it would have been a little much for our 1/2 ton suburban. The 1 ton should pull it just fine though.
It's nice to see another large family man here.

Likewise, glad to hear of you using your van for your large family !
We got our 1996 B-2500 High Top conversion van for the same reason, with 5 children, ages 2 to 12, we had outstripped the mini-van potential. That extra several feet between our blessed 'noisemakers' (the little girls especially...) and our ears is appreciated, not to mention that Wal Mart & grocery store trips are now manangeable.
Blessings to you,

Ramseur is about 3 hours east of Brevard, 45 min south of Greensboro and Winston Salem, about an hour north east of Charlotte. If you picked a spot about dead center on the map of NC you'd be real close.
We just took our first long trip in the van this past weekend over to the Asheville area and was hoping more room would make a big difference in behavior. For the most part it did but at times I think it gave them more room to draw back their arm before swinging. :VHOT:
Maybe we should start a new post about how many passengers you have in your wagons.
Our six range from 4mos. to 14years, 5 boys and 1 girl

Yes, the towable camper or known as a TT (travel trailer) is an great way to go. We've been looking to upgrade from the sleep 6 tightly to a sleep 8 model. The quad bunk house of the Coachmen 265-RS or 265-EX is one model http://www.coachmenrv.com/traveltrailers/captiva/floorplans/265RS.gif
The other is an Aerolite 26-QS that is basically the same identical TT. Both have the master bed hard slide out. For towing, it's a dream since the unit isn't super long. I'm trying to stay at a max length of 26 feet. Weight and turning as issues with a long TT. Plus, towing a longer TT eats into the mpg fuel economy big time! Visit www.rv.net/fourms for assistance or help. I'm in those forums as well in the TT section.
As you can see too, Dave here as a large faminly as well. The neat thing is, both of our families homeschool as well. :)
Yes, the childeren and the van is not only sneaky, but years later, they will remember the van we had when they are grown up. The DW stepped out of the picture on purpose.
I love my Dodge Ram Van/Wagon 12-passenger. It's not too long and has plenty of space inside. The V8 5.2L Magnum (modern 318cid) engine is great! The Ford is space, but some seats have tight leg room. Plus the Ford engine is weak for towing for the low ended V8. :WHT: The V6 in the Ram Van is better! The Chevy Express/Savanna is tight and cramped. It rides nice and has power. But to travel for hours in it is silly.
Our pastor who is from NC has a Dodge Ram Van/Wagon 15-passenger B3500 with the towing package too. He has eight children. We do family camp every August on Lake Ontario. We bring our TT's and there are cabins on the lake shore or in the woods too. It's only a few miles from the house, but what a place and a view! :)
Peace!
Stev

Dadof6, wow brave man with 5 sons ! Congratulations.
I've got almost the opposite, 1 son & 4 daughters.
What a contrast - I know the boys can be rough and combative, typically by nature.
Not that girls are any different - just different challenges.
I can relate on the 'more room to swing their arms !'
We work every day at inculcating the idea that God has put us together as a team, so as any team that has winning in mind, we've got to work together, honoring Him & each other, in order to be a 'truly winning team' !
I say that because, absent our children adopting Christ honoring self-government and deciding NOT to fight, we'd have to build a super custom 40' long Ram Van 9500 to accomidate the chaos !
Stev is a great brother here, and we've kinda 'chewed the fat' on these family issues - and fixed our Ram Van vexations along the way too !
Thanks for the 'map' of North Carolina - sounds like a great place you have - we are moving to East Texas, and hope to be able to visit the North East & South Eastern US more readily.
Glad to have you on DodgeTalk.com !

We also upgraded from several travel trailer sizes over the years, starting from small campers on Datsun trucks, to a 19 ft Terry TT, to a 30 ft Mallard TT, finally to a 38' Sandpiper TT.
Stev, I think our 30' Mallard Bunkhouse (1994 model) would be good layout to consider - it was a nice large, but compact unit, only weighed 4600 dry, 7000 capacity axles, and slept 7 or 8.
I traded it to my buddy who towed it nicely with an '00 F-150 truck - he added rear axle airbags & used a sway control WD hitch.
Our now larger 38' only sleeps one more, it just expands on living room & privacy, have two separate bedrooms, fore & aft.
It's definetly a challenge to balance size with suitability - you can get used to towing larger rigs -as 3500dually has shown with his impressive pics.
However, I pull my 38' TT with my Ram Diesel truck, not the Van. It's so poorly balanced that it even took buying a special hitch - the Hensley Arrow - to tame it's tendancy to sway badly.
Plus, when towing, you simply make allowances for where you can fit, and where you can't.....
My buddy has the one ton F350 Van Club Wagon, with a V-10 & Gear Vendors overdrive unit, and I think that it's the one van (too bad it's a Ford !) that could possibly tow a monster TT unit as capabily as a Diesel Ram Truck.
Wish you well on your RV choices......DB

My wife & I are constantly striving to demonstrate Christ-likeness to our children, by grace alone we are able to do so !
Not sure what you mean by 3 natural & 3 supernatural....
Our children are all our own, and you can tell by their ages when God 'rung our bell' (thus, changing our minds) on having more children: ages 12, 10 --- 5.5, 4, 2.5 !!
But, it helps the older ones develop more sensitivity to the younger ones as they all grow up together - maturity comes faster, for sure.

it is a 94 3500 360. It is an ex church van and it only has 49k on the clock. I have an 06' 2500 quad cab 4x4 diesel I use for towing most of the time. I use the van for family trips where I might want to keep my stuff covered and still tow my trailer.

If I want to camp, I just throw in a cot, campstove, coolers, etc. With all the appliances, tanks and particle board cabinets gone, it weighs about 700lbs. less! I rarely drive it now but lived in it last winter at Slab City in SoCal. My Escort wagon runabout died, so I just bought an '87 B150 shorty with a 318. It runs great and it's like a sports car compared to the B350!

I use mine for sex! and sex only!
Not in anyway to appease the need for affection, that could be done in my bedroom, or living room, office, etc.etc.
simply because we love horror movies.
I want see a ridiculously cleshay super villian in action!
And we all know that they only show themselfs to couples "doin it" in vintage vans parked atop hills in the middle of nowhere, while listening to White lions worse hits and having difficulties removing thir socks!
sad but true :help:

....If your van is a rockin don't bother knockin.
And the sticker that went with that sticker in the 70's was
"Don't laugh, your daughter may be in here" :D

Ive heard of
"if this vans a rockin dont come a knockin"
but
saying "....If your van is a rockin don't bother knockin."
sounds like your on the outside of the van, and someone else is causing the rockin inside!
in that senario I would definatly knock!

Well I had a 94 b3500 wagon converted to a work truck, cng.. used it for local motorcycle tows and parts (both in the back). sold it because i needed more range, and got a 98 b2500. it's nice having a van as a cargo van with a 2nd row seat for the kid.
so its' a work van, plus gets daily driver use... loaned my car out to my mother because her car needs repair.

I bought my 97 B2500 to haul my dirt bikes to the races. Been fixing up the inside, installing a leather interior pulled from a junkyard Chrysler LHS and installing a fancy stereo/TV/DVD for travelling. Getting it ready to head down to Florida from Canada in March.
Do you have pictures? do the seats bolt right up? oh please make
my day lol

Mine started life as a 1977 Tradesman Van Chassies but was built into a 21 foot motor home so I use it for traveling and camping . It is my main means of pulling my race Car on a 16' open car trailer , it don't get a chance to set back and relax.

My wife recently bought a 2000 3500 5.9L with wheelchair lift and bus-style entry to assist with her job. She is the Director of a hospital based Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). She was doing so well and growing so fast, there was an oportunity to expand their fleet. So "her" van is a money maker for her LLC. :rck:

Minimal work on the van so far. General maintenance stuff, installed mounting hardware to secure wheelchairs, window tint, auxillary fans.
I recently replaced the radiator/hoses.

My van is also dual purpose, I have 3 seats, the third is a custom install, front of the third seat is in line of the back of the two main seats, this gives me the maximum cargo space and still sit my family of three. I do three types of work from it. 1) I do Mobile Auto Repair, 2) I work with portable fire extingishures & 3) most any sort of odd jobs.
