I would guess it is a 3.55. To be sure of the ratio there are a few ways to find out.
1) Although it is the most accurate its not the easiest way to check.Drain the oil and count the teeth on the ring & pinion and divide the number of teeth on each. The numbers are stamped on the ring gear; example 39/11 is 3.5454 mathematically, rounded off it's 3.55 gearset.
2)Find the ratio tag is still on on of the cover bolts, and hope it's correct. (It may also be stamped on the axle housing somewhere also)
3) Raise both rear wheels on jack-stands and turn both rear wheels together (with the trans in neutral) and count how many times the drive-shaft turns around. This will give you an approximate ratio.

Use choice 3 of B-300's ideas.

The slant 6 3 speeds came with 3.21 or 3.23 I think, thats what I had in mine way back. I think the 3.55s were for the v8's.

There may also be an equipment label under the hood that will give you the ratio as well...provided the gears haven't been changed over the course of 20 years.

My '85 B250 with /6 has 3.55 gears.

Ramblin,

Hey, before you swap the rear end out, get some pictures of this RamCharger Van on the site! That's one really rare vehicle that doesn't have many pictures on the internet.

The tag from my '91 Ram, with a 318, says 3.2....
