Does anyone know if Chrysler makes a fast ratio power- steering box? A know the cars use the same box as vans til the 80's or 90's. They make a high-effort box for performance cars, but I can't find a fast ratio box.
I live on a windy road and this would cut down on steering fatgue. :rck:

I know starting in '94 the vans came with "variable ratio" steering boxes. The steering in my '94 is a lot tighter feeling than that of my '85.

I'm not sure if a box from a newer van will fit your '71

I know the '94 up won't fit because dodge used an outside vendor for steering boxes. The newer one's appear to be physically the same as those that GM used in there cars.
The earlier dodge boxes have 2 bolts to the side, and 1 near the bottom in the same direction as the steering column. The later one's look like the AGR box as pictured in www.summitracing.com, and I believe they are made by Gemmer. :rck:

I know what you mean, the steering in these things is kind of awkward...it's heavy, especially for a truck, AND slow. I wouldn't mind it so much if either the ratio were quicker or the steering were lighter (the latter being my personal preference). I stuck a suicide knob on my wheel just because it was so annoying in parking lots.

Maybe here you might be able to get a question answered, you never now with these companies. Lares rebuilds steering boxes for the aftermarket.

FWIW,

Besides being a Ram Van guy, I'm also a TDR member and on the forums there, the 2nd gen Ram Truck guys speak of replacing the slow ratio stock steering boxes on their '94-01 Ram trucks with an upgraded, fast ratio steering box, I think from a company called PSC. You might look them up or search posts there if you can't find it elsewhere. Try www.TDR1.com

Just a thought.....
