What could be causing my van to stall out. It wants to stall when I start backing up, Full tank and engine is at opperating temp?

Only when backing up?

Yes,
This has only happened when backing up, then it will just stall out it will start right back up again then stumble and stall, start up again with no problem then I have noticed that the idle seems like it goes up and down when rolling up to a stop? With my foot off the pedal. This after it has been driven for an hour and warmed up. I have also noticed when it is real cold, less than 32 outside when I get in it it will start fine then when driving to work, which my first mile or so is up a steady hill, I can hear a loud squeal and I know this noise is not a belt but sounds like a vac leak. This might be the root of my problem but I can't seem to find a leak. Is there some part of the vac system that I need to look at that might only be leaking when it is at a cold temp?
Any advice is deeply appreciated because backing into the road and stalling just isn't fun...
Thanks again
Tracy

Sometimes I get a whistle from my engine as it warms up, but then goes away.

The stumbling idle could be caused by a faulty IAC Motor (Idle Air Control Motor). This sensor can be removed from the throttle body and cleaned with carburetor cleaner.

Is the intake manifold plneum gasket problem only applicable to V8's or do the V6's also have problems too?

Could the whistling noise and idle fluctuations be caused by a blown gasket?

Just my .02 :D

I've haven't heard any complaints about the V6's having trouble with the plenum gasket.

My 94's plenum gasket was blown and it idled just a smooth as can be. I've since fixed the gasket, but when it's very cold (like in winter) I get the whistle. It goes away after the engine warms a bit.

Thanks,
I will pull the IAC and clean it and go from there...

Try to get up into the air passages as well with a small brush....a small bottle brush works.

OK,
So I cleaned the IAC and passages, seemed to have smoothed out idle but now it is starting to backfire and fall on its face when starting it up and driving down the road.
It will start to stumble, start popping and acting like it is going to die while it does this, mashing the peddle to the floor and swearing seems to have no effect but it does not completely stop running it will limp along for a bit than run just fine.
Should I drop the tank and see if there is "Gremlin" living inside that likes to mess with me or what...
