Hi All,

I'm needing to replace the water pump on my 98 van - Conversion Van with a 318/5.2L motor. I've seen advertisements in the various Mopar magazines for water pumps and thermostats that say they offer higher flow than stock. What's you opinion of these - do they work as advertised keeping engine temps down better or is it a marketing gimick?

Thanks!

David

My buddy put an Edelbrock high-flow pump on his '69 Dodge van and it really did help with water flow AND cooling. He has a big 7-row radiator and that pump keeps that coolant flowing. Not sure on the thermostats...he just has a Stant Superstat and it's fine.

So I'd say yes they do work.

Some of the 5.2L/318cid mods is to change out the stat to a 180 degree on vs the 195 degree type. If you go too low, like a 160 degree type, the computer gets confused and other things are wacky. You can read about that stuff in the engine threads here.

I agree, these engines putout heaps of heat. I once drove with the dog-house off in the summer. Now that was that a killer of a ride!

A magnum engine uses "reverse rotation" water pump that is more compact than earliar engines. Also the timing cover is shaped differently than earlier engines.
