It's just so boxey! I just can't get past the front end, it's terrible.

I agree!!! The front end sucks. It looks to me like the Germans have infultrated the U.S. design team. It kinda has that euro mercedes/bus/suv look. The hood is too sloped and low. The current Durango looks much less utilitatian. My wife wants a Durango (current style). If this is the way it is going to look, you will not see one of these in my driveway (hemi or not). Just my opinion.

Those headlights ruin the whole front end... yuck they make it ugly!

I sure as hell wont be getting one!!! That front end is not proporsioned (sp) to the rest on the body (which happedns to be ugly as sin)!!!! But it looks quite larger though!!

Well, if that is how the '04 looks, I'm really glad I didn't wait and got the '03 instead! I would have liked to have had the HEMI, but they whacked the thing with an ugly!! It also looks to be the size of an Expedition or Tahoe now too.

Yup, big and ugly - brilliant design choice!
Glad I got my Hemi in a 1500 QC. Can fit 5 people very comfortably and 6 in relative comfort and have a 6 foot bed for all the junk I want to take.

Wouldn't want one even if it had the Hemi in it....now the DAK thats a different story!! Just REALLY hope they use that syling anymore. They have degraded that sweet slooted tooth grille that Dodge is famous for.
I'd drive that Durango before an import though... Thats for sure!

I'm very dissappointed with Dodge. When the 1st gen Durango first came out I was convinced I had to get one. With this redesign it looks like they were forced to start with a GM Trailblazer as their template and just tried to make it look like a Durango. What happened between the better looking Hemi concept and this test mule?!

I just bought my used Durango and I'm glad I did. While I was deployed to Kuwait a few months ago, I requested a quote from AAFES New Car Sales and they sent me back a quote of $35K and said that was for the 2004. Boy I'm sure glad I didn't decide to get that.
I like the look of the new RAM 1500's, but this "D" is just ugly. Hopefully this is just a prototype to try to generate debate, but if this turns out to be the look of the Durango, I am not impressed.

Hey, Hey. Be nice now. Think about the picture for a minute. It's a stock white vehicle, and probably on the lower end trim package. First, give it a different color and add a few things to it, like a wiper cowl, some hood scoops, a sun visor, some vent visors, and mabe new skins. Also add the schackel kit to the rear and crank up the front. See if Hansen will make a front bumper for it? Sure it ain't what we're used to, but it's got potential.
It's also a bit larger. Now I think that's great. I find my D a bit to small to haul the family and 2 dogs. Hell, it's cramped up for 1 dog. It is coming out with the Hemi, and who knows what other little trick things that DC will have with it? Don't knock it.

It's to mini-vanish. That's the whole reason I bought the durango in the first place. I wanted something different in an SUV. Like everyone else said the concept truck was look'n ok, but even that had things I didn't like. They should restyle the hood and call it a mini-van or maybe sell it to Ford. :D

Yuck!!:( I cannot seem to understand the concept on why DC has to make those grills extremely large. A line in the center, and one going across. Every concept vehicle I have ever seen is like that. I understand that Mopar engines had a bad rep in the past for poor engineering in cooling design. Is there a possible link that the grills are this way due to the same thing, or is it cosmetics? I'm sorry, I think it is tooooooooooo boxy!:( Oh, just in case you guys didn't know. GaTOR70 says the word, " AAFES" in one of his sentences which means....Army AirForce Exchance Service. Just FYI!!:D My father spent 21 years in the AF including 5 tours in Vietnam. So, living the life as a military brat is quite interesting, and somewhat adventurous. Sorry, this didn't have anything to do with this ugly thing!!!:stk:

I am also interested to know why it is so gad awful low and in the pic from the back it looks like the front tires may be larger than the rear. It looks like it has an Envoy roof rack and a new explorer tailpipe. I really dont like it, forgive me for saying but it is almost like a PT Cruiser on roids, and bad ones at that. One thing that I will give them a thumbs up for is that it looks like there is an almost full length skid plate...very cool.

it looks like it needs some bigger wheels! the other concepts looked really cool! what happened here? i hope it looks different when it comes out on lots. otherwise it looks like a mini-van had sex with an envoy which had inbred sex with his 14th cousin which was a ram which had sex with his 2nd grandfather once removed a sprinter. lol

Hey Ramsport - I think you stumbled on to something here. Maybe they built it by committee - got a bunch of engineers together from different companies and gave them each a part to work on. That would explain a lot.

Here is a link to the dodge website with a sneak peak of the new durango. It looks better without the masking on the bumper. It may grow on me but I will have to see it in person prior to making a final judgement. Notice under the specs page that the Hemi may be 330HP and 370 ftlbs of torque.
It looks ike the headlights are sticking out of the wheel fenders!!! Thank god I have the Gen1...

Gran Caravan / Durango mix I think = New Durango
Well now I like it so much I ordered one 10/9 1st day of production.
Can't believe any one here would compare a Dodge to a Ford or Chevy
You must get your own vision on what it will look like after you play with it
some, you know imagination is a dangerous thing
Maybe they should have named Gran Durango

I'm wondering if it is possible to put a 5.7 Hemi into an 02 Durango. If so, I'm wondering how it will be for Dodge to start selling them in a crate.

If you want to know the answer to that, ask the Fastman. He was looking into that possibilitya while ago. I know that he's already torn into a couple of the knew hemi's. If you don't know who he is, go to fastman.com and check it out.

Hey DC when do the 3rd generation Durangos come out.
Maybe they will have a big rebate program on the 2nd gen
Durangos, like 8500 dollars or something. I don't know if I would even get one then!

Guys:
They're not giving any rebate on the Gen I's, but according to that post, DC's already giving a rebate on the brandy new Gen II's. Maybe RamRocker was right about DC expecting a disaster with the new D design.

I have to agree that the exterior is butt ugly but the interior is better designed and has fold flat rear seats. I have one on order as a test vehicle. The one point that also disturbs me with the new HB is the cab forward design. In order to work on the hemi engine there is a cowing and both windshield wipers that must be removed. It will be interesting to see how the sales figures will be when they are released from the factory November 24th.

I wish they would have designed it to look more like the new Ram in design.
Imagine a slightly smaller Dodge Ram with an SUV back.
That's what I would want.

Yep, that's a nice look - makes the truck look beefier and more in balance. My guess is that it also would be more difficult to see over the hood.
That is an "issue" with the RAM. It is very difficult to tell where the nose of the truck actually is especially when you are a shorter driver. No real problem though, I just park way out back in parking lots with the rest of the big trucks!;D But I doubt that your average soccer-mom would put up with it.
