looking for a used 5.2L (I believe they're Magnum) for a 3500 model Dodge Ram Van
or where I should be pointed to look for one
a new one will cost too much right now

From what I can gather, the 2000-2003 5.2L enignes should be all identical to swap out. 1999 had some tweaked updates from the 1998 year.
So, from 200 on up, the PCM/ECM should work fine with a same year same engine swap. Now to find one is the question. The Dodge Truck 5.2L may work too for those 2000-2003 years as well.
To bad you can't just drop a 5.7L HEMI into it. :)

Stev is right...any 5.2 Magnum from those years, including Ram pickups, will work. As far as 'where' to get one. I would imagine you could find one from a local boneyard. Some do have a warranty of some sort.
Yes the 5.7L Hemi would fit, but you'd have to make mounts and you could probably modify the wiring harness from a Ram pickup to work. I think the Ram Vans' transmission would bolt right up. Would be a neat conversion indeed.
