I picked this up on Monday. 1972 Dodge Power Wagon with 81,000 original miles. 360 V-8 with the 4spd manual transmission. Let the restoration begin. :rck:

I had :( a 74 Power/Warlock wagon. They are FUN trucks to work on and modify. Does yours have the divorced T-case? Give the fuseable link wire/amp guage a look too.....Mine gave me BIG FITS untill I switched to a volt guage. Good luck with the resto......and HAVE FUN, it looks to be in fairly decent shape. You can see mine in my avatar, I miss it!

I have no idea what a divorced T-Case is, so I can't say if this one has it or not, but I'll sure take a look into it. I'm not very mechanically inclined, so I was glad to find a truck like this that was in pretty good shape mechanically with minor rust. Something tells me this is going to be a learning experience.

A divorced T-case means that rather than having the transfer case directly mated up to the trannsmission you will have your tranny and t-case NOT bolted together but have a seperation (hence the DIVORCED) between the two of them and there is a small driveshaft (commonly called a jackshaft)between them linking them together. Many of the older 70's Fords also had this set-up.
You BET a learning experience will be had!! :rck: Get a good Haynes/Chiltons type manual and start researching on the net. Just jump in and we will throw you a line if you get in over your head!! You will be swimming before you know it. HAVE FUN. :gr_patrio

NICE rig! Somebody took care of that ;) It doesn't look like much needs to be done, and only 81k on it, should be in good mechanical shape... How much did it cost you?

Thanks for the complements guys. I was afraid I over paid for it ($3000) but I just couldn’t let it go. The cool thing is the guy that had it before me kept everything. He kept the service and owners manual. I’m looking forward to getting it back to original shape.

3K?? Good deal.... Especially for a rig in that good of shape. What's the inside of the cab and the engine look like? Just as clean, I'll bet ;)
Except for the lift kit and rims, it looks about as original as you're gonna get :D

The inside is beautiful. I forgot to get some pics of that, but I will later. The funny thing is it isn't what I would call "lifted." Before I bought it, the previous owner had the whole front end rebuilt, and new tuff country springs put in the back. I'm sure it's a little taller than stock, but that's ok with me since the front and rear are new. Plus he had the stearing arm replaced too.

How is the line-ex holding up on your rockers? I should be getting mine done next month! :rck: I'm going to pull the rear bumper off so he can shoot it all the way around the rear quarters. That's the worst area right behind the rear tires. I can't wait........

wow! What a sweet truck.... Doesnt look like it was ever driven! Get us some pictures of the inside and the engine... and your first fix should probably be bypassing the ammeter and installing a volt gauge. (Check out madelectrical.com about it).
Also looks like he's probably got a 203 transfer case (not divorced), with half ton axles... and a part time conversion kit in the front axle... Sweet!
Good luck, you'll have plenty of fun... and we'll be here to help you if you need any.

The rocker's are holding up great. I posted some pictures this morning for John.Colorado on another thread. It is by far the best investment I've made for my 04. Take a look here: http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1351207#post1351207

I KNOW it will be the best investment for me too. My 02 has 80K on it and NEVER had mud flaps, driven in Alaska, and has the rocker damage to show for it!! I really think the factory paint could have been better. On the inside rear section of the rear door rocker panel, right where it curves in, the paint is worn/chipped away down to bare metal!!! CRAZY, I have to do something with it or it will develop more severe problems down the line. $400 for the line-x I'm sure would be cheaper than repainting that area. I'll be sure to get pics when it's done.

Heh heh heh.... Well it does have some lift to it... Looks like at least a couple-three inches... Be happy that he did all he did with the suspension, because that stuff ain't cheap! Imagine how good it would look with some bigger tires on it :D
Post some pics of the cab and under the hood when you got a chance!
(BTW, neighbor ;) I'm guessing you bought it from someone local... I noticed the plug for the engine heater in the front of the grille :D ... We all know about those things where we live, eh? ... Which reminds me, guard that grille with your life! From the pics, it looks flawless and if you should ever smack a deer, you'll be hard pressed to find another either:
A: In good shape
B: One that doesn't cost an arm & a leg....
(Trust me, I know all to well about this....)
ENJOY your rig m'man, it looks like you got one sweetheart of a deal!!

This how mine is... (Tire out)
It's just that plate with a bolt and another plate a little larger then the center hole on the rim that goes thru the rim snugging it all up to the side of the bed.

Dude, that truck is beautiful. We all want to buy stuff dirt cheap, but you shouldn't worry about what you paid. It's more than worth it. Look at a late model 4x4 truck for $3000... You'll get a truck that is absolutely beat, with about 180k miles on it.
Not my favorite color, but if I were you, I don't know if I would change it.
A 360 with a four speed? Very cool!

Thank's for the picture. Does a 16" fit in that spot? I'm wondering if a tire would fit in that spot on my truck. Also, did you make that plate yourself or pick one up somewhere?

I took the Power Wagon to work yesterday and my dash lights didn't work. Would the wire/amp guage you speak of be my problem?
funinak

Did you have ANYTHING on the dash working? I know I had my cluster out many times doing various things and replaced lots of bulbs but never had the whole thing NOT working. Check the flat connectors (three I think) that connect to the back of the cluster and all the bulbs while it's out. Could be just a loose connector or ALL the bulbs over time have gone out and the previous owner never bothered to change them?? ALSO the headlight switch reostat might be bad too. They are very prone for going out. Check that, it MIGHT be just turned all the way down. If the wire to the amp guage was loose you would lose the whole truck, ie NO STARTING, CRANKING, LIGHTS, & RUNNING ALL TOGETHER. Mine used to come loose while I was driving and the whole truck would just die. I had to beat on the dash or reach under real quick to wiggle the connection to get it back. It was a REAL pain!! Good luck with your dash lights, keep us informed.

Everything else works, but the dash lights don't. The reason I ask is I called the previous owner and he said that the fuse was out, he replaced it and the fuse blew again. There must be something goofy in there.

Well, the spare I have mounted in there normally is a 31 x 10.5 on a 15" rim.
Being as the bolt that holds eveything together goes through the center hole on the rim, you've got about 3" to play around with.
The bracket, plate, whatever you wanna call it, came with the rig. I'm guessing it was aftermarket as I have a 2nd gas tank in back, underneath the rig, where the spare would normally be mounted.
It wouldn't be hard to make one at all, all it is, is a 3/16" thick metal "L" with two bolts on the top and two bolts on the bottom... with a hole drilled in it and a nut welded behind that. The only thing else you would need is a hunk of metal bigger than the center hole in the rim and a bolt long enough to reach through it all...

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the cluster lighting area............let the FUN begin!!! My recommendation would be to see what amp fuse it is and get a bunch of them or mabe a bit higher. Like if it a 5 amp get some maybe 7 amp ones along with some OEM rated fuses. Start by disconnecting the dash plugs, install a new fuse and see if it still blows. Take a good look at all your connections, fuse panel, and possible bare wires/corrosion too. It will be some trial and error to narrow down where it is coming from.

Dont forget to check the Head Light Switch. You may find the problem in one the pins.
Troubleshoot the plug with jumper wires.
I found my short and fixed it with a new switch and a hand full of bulbs.
It was real easy after I decided to disassemble the whole dash. Man I love the simplicity of this engineering!!

Here’s a little update on the dash lights. I fixed those the other night. Turns out the guy that had it before me used the dash lights as a ground when he put in a tape deck. No power to the dash lights when they aren’t turned on, but when you turn them on it blows the fuse, and kills the dash lights. Funny how when you don’t use the dash lights as your ground, it won’t kill the fuse, thus not killing your dash lights.

We've had such crappy weather (rain, snow and below zero temp) that I haven't cleaned up the truck for good pictures. I'm taking it for a spin this weekend to test the 4 wheel drive, and I may have to take some dirty pics and post them. What I really want to do is get my 04 cleaned up and the Power Wagon, and get pic's of them together.

I thought you would like the spare tire. And no, that is not what I would call snow. What I would call snow is what we got on Christmas Eve of 1996: 3 Feet of snow on Christmas Eve! That was fun. I'm hoping for more snow and less sub 0 tempratures!
