I just got a used 1997 caravan and cant figure out how to unlock the tailgate.....I ordered a manual and it was no help.....A locksmith was able to open it with the key and told my roomate it was fine and had something to do with unlocking the door and THEN opening the tailgate....he didnt write it down and Ive tried eveything I can think of...but no luck.
The lock is fine and the key is fine...theres a trick to it....anyone out there who can help me?

My key doesnt turn at all....after playing with it for 20 min...I figured out it how you unlock the van......I got it to open 3 times...but still not sure how....it has something to do with unlocking the drivers door with a key and then locking the van....then using the button to unlock the van......got it to open 3 times just not 100% sure how.
BTW: all 3 times I opened the tailgate...I didnt use the key in anyway...it was in my pocket. :VHOT:

you gotta lube the key hole and the complete latch i had that problem on my 97 grand it just needs lubeing you can unlock the back with remote with the doorlocks and with key in drivers door too its all on electric lock system but the back sometimes dont unlock because it needs to be lubed
