I own a 1997 Caravan base model. When starting the A/C there is the odor of mildew or better described as the smell of wet hay. Does this vehicle have a cabin air filter (if so where and how do i change it) or is there another way to remove the odor?

Probably the problem is you're shutting off the A/C with the evaporator and ductwork still cold. this turns to moiture when it warms and then mold grows. When leaving the van if you've had the a/c on, you should shut off the compressor and run the fan (not on recirculate) until no cold air is left in the system. When you shut off the engine, lower the fan speed and turn the key off, leaving the system in that mode. When you get used to this, it'll get much better. Do the same procedure when you use the defrost mode as the compressor always runs in that mode.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicle operators may experience a musty odor from the A/C system, primarily at start up in hot and humid climates. This odor may be the result of microbial growth on the evaporator core. During normal A/C system operation, condensation forms in and around the A/C evaporator. When airborne pollutants mix with this condensation, bacteria and fungi growth begins and odor results.
DIAGNOSIS:
Operate the A/C system, if a musty odor is experienced, perform the Repair Procedure.
