i have a v6 mustang w/ 70k miles and i was thinking about getting a srt-4. what are options on mods say... under $1000. what gains and times could i expect from these?

they are what low 14's stock? maybe high 13's?

edit: also what about reliabilty

High 13s stock. A lot of people run low 14s though. It's capable of high 13s.

Mod options are too wide of a range to answer. Some will lay out mods you could buy for $1000, I wont. There are a couple different paths to go and its up to you to choose which way to go.

Reliability is directly related to mods and maintence. Generally, there are no major issues. A lot of people get agressive with tunes and mods, and this reduces reliability and life just as with any other vehicle. These are pretty tough drivetrains though for the most part.

Going from a v6 Mustang to a SRT-4 is a pretty dramatic jump in performance. I doubt there would be disapointment.

My insurance has gone down a couple hundred bucks vs my 02 Ram, and I have an ugly DMV record. Almost 3 years have passed since my last incident though so that may be part of the decrease. Generally I don't think insurance is too bad for most people... You'll just have to check...

When I got my SRT I was 20. My insurance monthly payment was $240 and I had a clean record. I then looked around and found an insurance company in San Diego that lowered my monthly Payments to $136. Shop around.

I think you may be paying more on insurance than you'll be paying on the car... Just my 2 cents here, but most places are going to look at it this way, "hmmmmm 18 year old male buying a turbocharged vehicle... Now what would he be doing with that? endangering other drivers? Racing? breaking the law no doubt... Lets soak him a healthy amount for his insurance." I'm not saying its a certainty, but theres a very good chance their thoughts will be somewhere along those lines. I'm 17 paying $405/6months for liability, If i were to get full coverage (which is probably what you'll be getting, with a new car and all) it would be over $750/6months. I said screw that, I can buy a whole 'nother car after 18 months with that kind of rate.

Another thing to watch out for, some insurance companies have the "no-no list." Its a list of high performance vehicles that they will not insure unless the driver is of a certain age. For my insurance company, that age was 25, and the list included the Mustang GT, Camaro IROC, Trans Am, Corvette, Viper (ok, basically anything with 8 or more cylinders that isnt a truck, SUV, or big boat.) as well as a few I was surprised by, like the Celica GTS, MR2, Supra, 300ZX, 350Z, RX7, RX8, S2000, NSX, 3000GT, Eclipse, EVO, WRX, Daytona Z, basically any car with a turbo or even a hot 4/6 cylinder. Usually its the insurance companies with the lower rates that are going to have these lists.

i just got mine, insurance will be $155/mo, which includes:
$250 deductible collision
$0 deductible comprehensive with glass
renters insurance for my home

so that makes the car about $135/140 mo

14XX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as in $1,400!!!!!!!!!! HOLY BATMAN!
Yeah that would $1,400 lol

$1000 collision deductable  The only accident I've ever been in I was rear ended at a red stop light when I was 19 lol

It is my fault so I don't complain about it though. I paid as much as $2000/6 months when I had my truck, so the 1400 doesn't seem as bad. I can drop it down a little more once I get the car paid off and more time passes :D
