I normally post over on the Dodge Ram side but my wifes 2000 Stratus(2.5L 4cyl, Auto Trans) is not running right. I have not driven it personally because it did this on her way home and I made her drive it to her aunts house. Here are the symptoms that my wife described to me:

Check Engine Light came on

Engine doesn't run right

Spedo Does not work (all other gauges do work)

Engine Temp gauge runs warmer than it usually does

When hood opened it is really hot under there and the fan kicks on.

Shifts really hard and erratic

Sorry to be so vague with the symptoms. But, this is my wife describing these. Can somebody possibly give me a clue on whats could be possibly wrong with it before I tow it to the dealer.

Thanks in advance for any help,
G.I. Jones

Well found out what the problem was. It turns out to be the Output Speed Sensor on the transmission that caused the spedo and the shifting problems and a bad thermostat that caused the car to overheat. Just thought I would fill everybody in on the subject just in case somebody's Stratus had the same symptoms.

Oh, thank's man... and for the record... the 2.5L is a V6, the 2.0L and 2.4L are the 4 cylinders.... ;) just clearin that up

Yeah I know. I meant to go back to correct it this morning but my kids sidetracked me. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though.

Wife's '99 ES did that this past Thursday coming home. Speedo fluctuated then dropped to zero, trans went into second gear and wouldn't shift. She called me from a church she stopped at and I went over to check it out. Since it was running fine, but not shifting, we drove it slowly over to the dealer and it was ready the next afternoon. $55.00 total. The dealer's name is Auge's Dodge in Belen NM - very courteous, very polite, did only the work required and did not try to sell me anything that wasn't necessary. Dar was ready earlier than I expected. I recommend them above all other Dodge Dealers in the Albuquerque NM area.
