Actually I'll probably go with Autometer Sport Comps, because they are cheap and will match my original gauges (blackface). Ulta Lites also look nice, but I dont really want to change my cluster to whiteface gauges.
But I was actually looking for opinions on what TYPE of gauges, oil pressure, oil temp, or vacuum, to be specific. Pick two.

Oil pressure and water temp, if you had to only go with 2 on a naturally aspirated car. After that, I'd probably go with oil temp. I'd get a voltmeter before getting a vacuum gauge though...
Best of luck!

I agree with Radar! 100%

Since I already have the generic factory water temp gauge should i go with oil pressure and oil temp then? I'd think oil temp and water temp would be roughly the same though.... right?

im not really a fan of white face gauges or the gauge clusters that go on ur pillar, iwant the autometer Phantom 2 cause they black out and look nice as hell! expensive though... i have the frog eye thing that replaces the stock cluster cover thingy, i want to get the frog eye's that go on the dash too then mold it to it. ima fill the 4 with oil pressure, air/fuel, fuel pressure, boost ( most likely ) idk if i'll get other gauges or not i know i should but if i get the right boost controller ( i wanna go manual but i might go with electronic) it will tell me most stuff same with a fuel afac!

If you have an automatic I'd get the trans temp. gauge.

no sir. i'll use a vac to check, but motor will tell u when its idling if u have a leak. before u were born i raced mopars in NHRA div 3 at Newark, Norwalk, Salem, West Salem and even Magnolia. held 1 NHRA and 2 AHRA records with MaxWedge plymouths. never had a vac, oil temp or trans temp gauge in the car. never lost an eng or trans. quite a few diffs, though (8 3/4 sg). may be old and pcm ignorant, but i can tune an engine to make power w/o sending it out or spending alot of bucks. ask someome who raced in the late 60's about the "BRUTUS WEDGE" cars.

I agree with you on what you said. I've raced may different cars too. Mostly chevys. I never had any of those gauges eighter. BUT we are talking about boosted four bagers that need to rev high with tighter clearances in the engine. Not the older v8 that we use to open the gap on bearings to run Kendal nitro 70 oil. even with stall converters on the old cars, they wouldnot see rpms of 7,200 + Rpms, and if they did they didnt last long. Unless you had a serios engine wich in that case you would have the gauges. These smaller tuners pull high revs all day even as daily drivers. Its not uncommon either to see these things pump out 450 HP.
What kind of HP were you running back then

10-4, n-gin. but these new 4 cyl are just big motorcycles. lite rods and pistons, no pushrods, and dohc's. 8000 is nothin for these engins. I've no idea how much hp we were making then. the dyno was the time slip! all were rb mopars w/ torqflites. get this; a 62 Chry 300H 413 w/2 4's (4180lbs) AHRA "world record holder" (world?) @ 12.98! 64 MaxWedge, (11-something, dont remember), 65 HEMI dodge, 10.80's. best i can do (long- term loss of short-term memory / or vica-versa, i forgot) LOL! I accually set a new record at the Indy Nats in 72, and owned for almost an hour! then we used Valvoline, but now its strictly Mobile 1.

Manual. I want to get the gauge cluster bezel that has two 2 1/16" gauge pods, so it looks some what factory, but I have no clue what to fill the other hole with!! LOL. Air/Fuel is useless, you really cant do anything about it anyway. Its controlled by the PCM, theres no carb to tune, LOL. I want oil pressure, and i "think" i need it, but do i really? does anyone know at what oil pressure the factory oil light comes on at? I was just dealing with a weird ticking sound last week (now i'm pretty sure it is an exhaust leak), and thought it was coming from the valvetrain, and possibly caused by low oil pressure, since i had just switched to 5w50 oil (too heavy for the pump?). I've since drained the oil out, but I still think oil pressure would be nice to have. What are your guy's thoughts on this?

You are better with a manual gauge. If you have a light then you will see it at 5 psi :WHT: By then it is too late. Basic rule of thumb is 10 psi at every 1000 rpm.

Thanks for the advice n-gin. Ok, I think i'll get Oil Pressure and Oil temp... or maybe oil pressure and volts? Heck i dont know, LOL. I'm out of funds right now anyway so i've got some time to make up my mind.
