I am planning on adding a transmission temperature gauge. I plan on buying an oem replacement pan and having adaptors welded on for the sensor and a drain plug. I know I can buy the B&M bolt on plug kit to do both, but I prefer the weld-on as it will not come loose. I can't see buying an expensive after market pan, when the oem is only $45.00. Any one added the temp sensor to the pan and where is the best place, so as not to conflict with transmission inside components.

There are sensor blocks available that can be installed in the steel coolant lines to the trans cooler (suggest the return line) and the send unit just screws into the block.http://www.autometer.com/cat_accessorieslist.aspx?pid=40

Thanks, I know of this choice, but I was of the belief the sensor submerged in the pan oil was the most accurate method for checking temp. Did you used the in-line block? I would like to save having to remove the pan twice just to know the best location on a side.
