I did a search on this forum for people having horn problems with their neon and nobody seems to have one similar to this one
this morning about 3:45 I hear this long blast from a car out in my driveway
I go look out the window and only my car is in the driveway so i go back to bed not thinking any more about it
then about 8:15 this morning it happens again, only the blast doesnt stop, so I look out and sure enough its my car, the doors are locked and theres no one in it and the horn is blasting continuously. so i go out to the car and push the horn pad on the steering wheel and the horn goes back to normal
I have no keyless entry or alarm on this car, does anyone have a clue as to whats going on?

From the sounds of it you have a stuck horn button. What year is your Neon, I have 2 (used) horn buttons from a 96, let me know. The buttons I have are for a dual horn button setup, ie, there are buttons on both sides of the steering wheel (versus a single one, where you push on the center of the steering wheel to activate the horn).
Taking the steering wheel apart to replace the horn buttons is not hard, just beware of the airbag, handle it with care!! If you decide to replace the button(s), be advised the Haynes manual states you should disconnect the battery for a few minutes prior to working on it, because you don't want to activate the airbag accidently via static, etc.
Good luck!

Maybe you could just take the steering wheel apart and clean your bottons or what not. Maybe a loose wire or something. Thats the only thing Ican think of unless you buy a new one and replace it. Good luck

I am going to try and take it apart and try to fix it today
I'm told by the dealer here that the metal strip that makes contact when you push the horn is starting to collapse
i hope i dont have to replace the entire thing as it is serviced as one unit with the airbag

Thats how dodge does things, everything is sold in packages. You may only need one part, but they'll sell you 4 and tell you its all one unit. I have a broken clip on my sunroof slider, and the only way i can get a new one is to buy the whole left guide assembly for $175..... sorry, just venting my frustration.

I fit was all that much I think I would just pull the fuse.....LOL Bad but at least it isn't going to be getting you out of bed at 2:30 Am. It is rare for me to use the horn anyhow. Good luck!

lol the thought of just getting an aftermarket steering wheel came to mind when I was told about the horn button shorting out, if i take apart the old one and try to fix it knowing my luck it will either get worse or not work at all
i cant seem to find a used one thats the same color as mine, all the ones i find are either the 2 button ones or are grey, my car has the tan interior and the steering wheel is brown

Is it possible to put an aftermarket steering wheel on a car with an airbag? I was always told it wasnt, but I wouldnt say the source was very reliable, and I havent looked into it myself.

I almost forgot, did you try swapping the horn relay (under the hood, inside the black fuse/relay box by the battery)? There are several other identical relays inside that box, swap the horn one around with, say, the A/C clutch, if problems goes away, viola, you need a new relay! You can try a local bone yard for the horn button or relay, BTW.
You probably CAN swap the steering wheel for another w/o an air bag, but by doing so, the red 'air bag' light will always be 'lit' on your dash. I know, I replace the entire steering column on my 97, forgot to plug in the air bag, and had that problem.
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress!!

Just pull the gauge panal out and take the little bulb out from behind the airbag symbol, no more airbag light. Problem solved.
