Has anyone researched swapping a gen III Dana front axle into a gen II ? I would like to go with 4.56 or 4.88 gears but they are not available for the 7.25 front axle. I have an 8.75 and a couple of 9.25 rearends from old 1/2 tons (lotsa ratios). I've seen a lot of posts around the net about a solid axle swap, but I don't need the articulation, ride height, or expense. I would like to get the performance back that the 33" tires ate. Just an idea.
Thanks, Harold

I would be interested in this too if anybody knows anything about it.

Hey meharold, Have you found out anything about the axle swap? I've got some time before I can go to 33s they will fit now. I just trying to get my performance back before I get 33s.

No, I haven't done anything with the idea. These tires are about shot and the truck has become my daily driver again, so I am thinking of going back to 9.5-30 tires. I've been working on a Dana 44 front for my Cherokee, and the Ford 1/2 ton radius arms and coil springs didn't look to be that hard to adapt. Of course I have already chopped the heck out of everything except the center section. Once I get something else to drive I may look into solid axle full width front and rear, but for now I have to leave well enough alone. Good luck and let me know what you find.

I'd be interested too, these 3.55s really bog the truck down.

We can get 410 for the 7.25 axle, but I was thinking of 456 which is not an option for the 7.25. I guess I'll just settle for 410. I don't think I will go for the solid axle.

For me, I don't know if going from 3.91 to 4.10 is worth the trouble or expense. Does anyone know if these 7.25 diffs are the same carrier as the old sixties 7.25 rear axles ? It seems that I have read of Mopar using a powr-lok in the old hyper pack Valiants. If so, Could we install a loaded powr-lok in the front?
