Removed the factory air box and replaced it with a cone. Makes all kinds of noise , just to need to "GO" with it. I believe lower throttle response has really increased, so I may see a MPG jump. One pic with the engine cover, one with out. I do need an exhaust that will add some rumble to a 2.0 four banger. Any thoughts?

So it's louder without the OEM airbox?

Looks allright. I'm not convinced those cold-air filters are worth it. I mean how much colder is that air under the hood? If the filter were next to the grill I would be more convinced.

Is there a way to put that filter next to the front grill?

What would be cool is if someone made a ram-air hood for the Caliber (not like the SRT show car, but a simple one-scoop ram-air inlet).

The stock air box has a lot of foam under the lid and a small slit to feed the air. The cone is open all around. I did pick up 1 mpg over my last tank. Maybe it was the cone.

OK, yeah that would make sense. Now that you mention it I was wondering about the air flow volume with that OEM box. It's just a small opening.

...hoping for a ram-air-hood.

Anybody know if K&N has anything for the caliber yet, or when they will?

That is not really a CAI. It is really just a high end filter. It will improve air flow and in turn increase mileage, but that does not make it a CAI.

If you re-routed the intake and put the filter further away from the main engine bay, or even ran a tube from the front of the car to that area, it would pull cold air. Then you will have increased air flow and the air will be much cooler, and in turn more dense.

The denser the air, the more it will expand when it combusts and also uses less fuel. I know there are plenty of setups like I mentioned in the Ram forums. The only problem would be room for the piping.

Bottom line, it is a great mod as is. It will give you better flow, better performance and better mileage. Now lets see if you can improve this design and make is a true cold air intake :rck:

N1Vek, you're saying the after market Mopar CAI ($307.00) will give better torque and gas mileage (on 2.0) than TradedBenz's set up? The Mopar add-on looks similar, except for the aluminum airflow tube, and the price. Will the airbox - cone filter swap affect the warranty? I know the Mopar parts won't. Also, do you have to add a performance chip or will it run ok with just the filter? :help:
