I'm really concerned about being able to stop my truck with the engine plans.... and, i was looking at a disc brake conversion kit... but they want almost 800 bucks! I plan on eventually putting dynatracs on my truck, so i dont really want to spend 800 bucks on them. I'm interested if any of you have attempted to convert to disc brakes on junkyard parts? what years of these trucks did they start making disc brakes on the 9.25 rear ends?

has anyone attempted this already? help me out! lol

I wouldnt waste time or money on the 9.25 axle. Wait til you get the D60/D70 in the rear. That would give you a minimum of 12.5" x 2.5" drum brakes or the D60 can be converted to disk. There are many articles on line about the D60 disk brake conversions. Do a Google search, most of the HD 4wd forums have info on conversions.

yes, when i upgrade to D60s, i plan on ordering dynatracs with disc brakes, 4.56 gears, and arb air lockers. of course, i dont have 6 grand to spend on them. and 800 bucks is too much to spend on discs for the rear, but if i could do a conversion on junk yard parts that would be ideal. especially since i dont know when im gonna stumble on 6 grand.

Did you look at the TSM site? www.tsmmfg.com
Another cheap option would be to change the shoes and pads to ones that have a higher frictional coefficient. There are lots of new materials out there that grab better.
