Has anyone removed there gas tank before. I have to remove mine on my 84 W100 to get all the trash out of it. I have no idea where to start. It's the 20 gallon Plastic tank.

you'll find it down the left side of your truck and will need a 14mm socket and wrench to undo the bolts through the frame since they are the only ones you can get at without removing the box

What do I need to clean it with? Someone told me clean gas, swish it around then pour it out then blow it out w/ a air hose. Then others said they thought there was cleaner that you used.

I had to use lacquer thinner to cut the layer of varnish on the bottom of my tank. Then I washed it with detergent and water. After sitting in the sun for a couple of hours, with all the holes open, it was clean and dry.

I dropped the tank on my '84 D100
Best to do it when the tank is almost empty
use a trolley jack and a piece of 2x8 to lift it when it goes back in; while it is quite light when empty, it is a bugger to hold it in place if you are working alone
Since it is plastic, I suspect there will not be much trash in it
The through the frame rail bolts are a real PitA
The engineer who came up with that one should be shot and pissed on
A piece of safety advice which may sound silly - when working under the truck, especially if you are laying on the ground as opposed to working with the vehicle on a hoist, wear your earplugs.
Not because of the noise, other than the naughty words, Rather the dirt and debris that will inevitavbly come loose and fall where you do not want it.
I got a load of stuff in my ear resulting in a trip to the ER; rather embarassing

just take my word for it it's not something you want to do but then again i've worked in places were all you could smell was exaust fumes and free-on with cutting torches and leeky fork lifts no wonder i quit that job
