I have a 1992 Dodge Caravan with less that 60 thousand mile on it. When we bought it the fan had to be rewired and a new thermostat put in. Then the Maintance Required light cm on an stays on. We took it back to the car lot we bought it from and they flushed the radiator and did an fluid change and hooked it up on the computer t test all of the senors and everything showed up fine. They said that there is a rest button but did not know how to rest it.

Can anyone tell mewhere this button might be or how to rest it?

If your talking about reseting the computer, as far as I know there is no "button" to do this. Disconnect the battery for about a half hour, then hook it back up. It's that simple. Of course, then you will have to reset the stereo clock and presets, but that's not hard either.

The Main. Req. Light will come on to indicate a fault in the emission system.
One the fault is cleared the light will go out, the only other way to clear the fault is with an ODB-I scanner, Good luck finding one nowadays, I have actually found two stores around me that carry them, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. They both carry ODB-II scanners that are backwards compatible with the ODB-I.

The older models had an actual mini switch inside the dash (behind the instrument cluster) that could be pressed to reset the light, these 92's do not.

So check out the emission system. Find the fault and correct it, Or purchase the scanner to get the code, then correct it and clear the code.

As for the scanner, its about 90 bucks most places, WAL-Mart had it for $35. But I didn't grab it.

Go talk to the car lot you got it from, they probably have a scanner and can clear it for you, just remember, it will only show back up again if there is a fault.

The Main. Req. light is not the same as the Check Engine light, its just a reminder to take it in for service, it does not indicate a fault.
The Check Engine light is the one that tells you the fault codes.
Even in my 89 Voyager there is no reset button, if you do the maintenance yourself just remove the light bulb from the rear of the dash panel.

The Main. Req. light will come on 1, at a predetermined interval, and 2, when there is a fault with the emissions system, if your car has recently be checked and all was fine then chances are the interval was simply reached and you need to have the code reset.

Removing the bulb is like turning up the stereo because the engine is knocking, It may take away the symptom but the problem still remains.

The interval reset button in on the back side of the speedometer cluster, you remove the cluster, turn it around to see the back side, and insert a paper clip or tiny screwdriver to reset a hidden tab. It will be egraved in plastic "reset" next to the hole.
It comes on by it self every 60 K miles to remind you to replace the oxigen sensor, which you should

Remember thought the '92 does not have that button.

HWYSTAR is correct. That light is set to come on a certiain millage intervals, 30,000, 60,000, etc. It has nothing to do with any error codes. It is a reminder to check certian parts. The only way to clear it is with a scanner. If you plan on keeping car, just pull the bulb.

As long as the "check engine light" is off, you should be okay (although make sure it lights momemtarily when starting car)
