1999 dodge intrepid 2.7 engine.
Last year engine light came on steady, would start blinking sometimes. Mechanic said coils on spark plugs shorting (to block?). He says he replaced them, guaranteed that would solve the problem. 3 days later engine light comes on again. They say the code indicates catalytic converter (which I have read is very difficult to diagnose specifically so right away I'm suspect of their diagnoses).
I was broke by then so I had to let it go. It's now running exactly the same, ok when cold, worse as it gets hotter, starts to idle rough, hesitates badly, misses. I don't trust this mechanic but don't want to pay again for the same repair. I'm hoping at least I can educate myself a little more, maybe get a code reader, test the coils, whatever.
Any suggestions??
Joel
