Quick question. Should I go with the $249 60mm TB that tapers to 55mm. Or get the $290 62mm TB w/ spacer off of modern performance? Feed back is greatly appreciated. It would help me make my decision easier. :gr_patrio

I'll offer my 2 cents.. though it may not be right. Since you've got a turbo engine, a venturi style TB wont benefit you as much as a large, straight through design, correct? I'm just thinking a venturi would hamper airflow more than help it, since its being pushed into the engine by the turbo rather than pulled in by the pistons alone. I'd go with the 62mm TB w/ spacer (i'm assuming its a straight design) if that logic holds true. Good luck.

I'd stay away from the Iceman tb... Everything I've read where it's come up says they leak. Out of those 2 I'd say go with the 62. It seems it's a somewhat common problem for aftermarket tb's to leak.

I will also say, though, that Lorenzo 60mm has the best reputation and is what I plan to probably get sometime in the future.

Thanks for the feedback. I looked at the Lorenzo and the Modern Performance TB. Other then the leeking (thanks for the heads up Andy) TBs, isn't a TB a TB?

More or less, yes, just like anything else. I actually can't recall ever seeing anything about the MPx throttle body, I'd just try to research it a little and see what comes up.

There are basically two types of TB's... ones with a venturi and ones without. TB's with a venturi will have an opening of Xmm in diameter, then gradually neck down to a smaller diameter, reaching minimum diameter closer to the manifold side of the TB than the intake tube side of the TB. Then they flare back up to the same diameter as the opening at the intake manifold end, however in a much shorter space, creating a more radical angle on the inner wall. This neck, while some will simply see it as restriction DOES serve a purpose. (i.e. there was a reason the 1st Gen neon MTX TB's opened at 52mm and necked down to 49.5mm, the problem was the TB was too small to begin with. The factory shouldve put on a TB that started at around 55-56mm and necked down to 53mm or so.) What a venturi does is actually accelerated the airflow through the TB. the air comes into the TB at a static pressure (atmospheric pressure minus resistance encountered thus far in the intake track), then is compressed when it reaches the venturi, due to the smaller diameter. this momentarily pressurizes the air, and when it exits the venturi the air accelerates, expanding with the diameter of the TB. Basically what happens is there is slightly more vacuum created in the intake manifold, resulting in faster airflow, and more air ingested into the engine that with a straight through TB at the diameter of the smallest point in the venturi. The gains are most noticable on N/A engines. Since a turbocharged engine relies on boost pressure to actually force air through the TB, intake manifold, and into the engine, your best bet would be with a large straight through TB.

Thanks for all the info. I should be able to make a choice now. Let you guys know how it goes.

iceman = pos

stay away from it. the lorenzo or the boomba are the two best on the market right now. if you want something a little cheaper look into the dcr ported tb.

Oh, my bad. Is that all you need for installation? Is it plug and play?

Yep, plug and play as far as I know.
Fit your standard sensors to it and bolt it on. It comes with 2 hex head fixing bolts too.

Its great quality actually. U just strip ur existing tb for the sensors, gasket and accelerator mounting bracket and bolt em on. Should only take 30 mins tops.

Hmm...I'm interested but...how reliable is it though. I haven't hear about that throttle body and I've seen a spacer come with some. Is the spacer necessary? Sorry its taking me a while to get on the net.

No u don't need a spacer. This will bolt up to the intake mani as your standard tb does.
Its the exact same design as all the other billet tbs out there.
Reliable? How can they go wrong? If they are made corrrectly with a good flat base to bolt down its good. And, believe me its a high quality piece. But if u don't want it thats cool, I will easy sell it on ebay or the like.

I'm interested in that TB. I tried to Message you but I guess it didn't go through. The thing is though I probably won't have the money untill after the weekend of the 16th. I'm vissiting my girl in AZ and you know how those things go. Is it ok if we can make some kind of agreement. If not, that's cool. :gr_patrio
