I've heard they aren't the greatest for the trucks.

Only help if you have major breathing mods, ie. intake, exhuast, bigger tb, headers... stuff such as that.

i have a stage 2 in my ram with the 4.7, i also have all the mods, headers, intake, tb spacer, underdrive pulley, and it does great. Ive used them on stock trucks too and they helped but without all the goodies your not going to gain much. i noticed the biggest power boost on my 03 dakota 4.7 when i added the borla pro xs muffler with a k&n filter. it really hauls ass.

Hey, forum jumper here. I was searching for info on JET chips because the 04-06 4.7's don't have many modding options. I found this Truckin' magazine tech article where they install a JET chip in a 4.7 Ram QC, dyno it, and post results. The Ram doesn't have any other performance mods and they don't specify if it's a Stage I or II chip, or what grade of gas they're running. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.truckinweb.com/brandpages/dodge/0410tr_dodge_jet_module/

I think I might break down and try one, if so I'll post the results in the Durango and 4.7 engine forums, please do the same if you try it. Stingers endorsement is refreshing to read too...

I Read the article and i'm wondering how the Ram 4.7L gets 254.93 Stock HP and when i did a Dyno test on my `05 Dakota 4.7L I got a base of about 178 give or take 1 or 2 HP and then after new Intake, Exhaust, Headers and 70mm F&B TB mods i got about 188 HP.

I'm interested in a performance chip myself but i'd be interested to see any true results of a stage 2 on my year truck.

Let me know if you guys end up getting one and what your thoughts are on it.

Thanks..

Jim.

I wrote to harley.camilleri@primedia.com (harley.camilleri@primedia.com) at Truckin.
I sent them an email asking what JetChip Stage version they were using along with what gas they had when they did the DYNO.

Here is the email i received back from them word for word copied straight from the email.

" Jim - The truck was tested with the Stage II chip. Testing on the dyno was
done in second gear to compensate for the 37-inch tires. Hopefully you'll
see some good gains yourself.

So there ya go,... He never says anything about the gas used while testing.
I got my Stage 2 in the mail today,.. I have a 1/2 tank of 87 Octane still so I might go ahead and install it to see how it drives then when i get closer to empty i'll give the truck some 91 octane and maybe a Octane Boost Bottle.

Any thoughts?

Jim.

Jim,

I'm glad you had a dyno done before you got your chip, are you planning on having another done with the chip installed or will you just be going by "seat o the pants" dyno?

I tried finding an e-mail address for the author but got frustrated and gave up pretty quickly, so kudos on your efforts. I ended up investing in new wheels/tires which delayed my performance mods.

Good luck with your testing, I'll keep checking back for your update! Hope it's :drivingz:

i thought you needed a 180 degree thermostat to run a stage 2 chip...?
