Look for a gear reduction starter. Many companies make them aftermarket for performance applications. Smaller and stronger than stock.

I think Mopar Performance sells the smaller high-torque starter. I think it's the same as what Mopar uses on the newer vehicles. It's made by Nippondenso.

Here's a starter for a '94 B250 van. It's smaller than the old style starter and will fit a 5.2 (318) I'm sure it would fit an older engine.
np, thanx, i am still searching for a starter, also what about an air filter system or intake? i hear it gives morer power, how true is that? can anyone recomend one of those?

Doubt you'll find a cold air intake system for an '86 unless you build one yourself, but you can go with a K & N air filter. These increase airflow and they can be cleaned and reused. K & N filters have a million mile warranty.
