WOT 1-2 shift happens around 5800rpm. I can't say the shift is neck snapping but it's MUCH firmer than my last Dak('00 w/4.7L auto).

A park/neutral 4000rpm rev limiter!?! My fathers' Sebring, 300 Limited, and Town and Country all have this. What gives?

The IAT sensor has been moved from the intake manifold to the "air hat" on the drivers side just in front of the TB.

4x4 decals can be removed without any special solvents/procedeures. Just start peeling with a fingernail then slowly peel off. No glue/residue left behind.

The limited slip diff. It is just as good as the Power-trax I had in my last Dak.

On the H.O. 4.7L is the rear resonator baffled, or is it a straight through design?

I kept the Z-tube w/7" powerstak filer from my last Dak and tried to fit it to my new Dak. It almost fits. I will have to mod it by adding an extension(at least 4 inches) at the throttle body to move the tube forward to allow for clearance of the oil dipstick and the A/C accumilator/dryer tubes. After I get the Z-tube modded I will have to make some sort of shield to isolate the filter from engine heat and allow it to draw cool air from the fender.

Next up is a trip to Midas Muffler to have a Magnaflow muffler(stock size 2.5" in/out) installed. A cat back is out of the question not only because of price(+$600) but because of the effect a larger diameter exhaust system has on torque. From what I've read/learned(I've discussed this with two mechanical engineers), increasing the diameter of the exaust
over stock decreases pressure(not back pressure, the overall pressure in the entire length of the exhaust). Reduced pressure results in a slower flow through the system. That slower flow reduces "scavenging" resulting in less torque at lower rpm. The torque doesn't disappear it just shows up higher in the rev range.

Also:

The front brakes, which are twin piston vs. single piston in prior generations, are excellent.

Mileage? After 4000 miles I get 15 city(stop and go under 45mph) and a little over 20 highway(around 70mph). According to the overhead computer I get around 27, YES 27mpg, crusing at 45mph. Not too shabby for a truck that weighs sooooo much.

Hey pachinko78, Welcome to DodgeTalk!

I have a '05 4.7 H.O. AWD Dakota and I wanted to compare notes with you if that's ok.

I get about the same mileage you get, maybe a little less on the highway (18 or so is the norm). When I drive around town racing from one light to the next the worst mileage I can make this truck get is about 13. Normal city driving gets me 14.5.

I run the truck on 89 octane gas, which is "mid-grade" here in TX. I was wondering what you use? I tried 93 octane for a while and I have found the fuel economy and performance overall seems better running 89 octane than 93.

As for the resonator all I know is there is only one on the H.O. trucks, instead of two like on the rest of the Dakotas. I replaced my stock muffler with a three-chamber Flowmaster, and left the resonator. I like the sound. It gets better with time! It's also not too loud, which is nice.

I agree that the brakes are more than adequate, though not as responsive as the four-wheel disc setup I had on my '02 Ram. The greatest thing about this vehicle is all wheel drive, which makes me feel a whole lot safer on slippery roads than I ever have felt in a pickup truck.

Overall I love the truck. It has really exceeded all of my expectations and it has been the only vehicle I've bought new that never had a single problem in the first year of ownership.

The resonators are straight thru with no baffles, much like a Magnaflow muffler. My truck has no resonators  .
