And to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I bought this in December sight unseen. I was told it was in "decent" condition. My guess is some peoples decent is other peoples poor. It was in the back of a storage building behind a pile of big boats, trucks, cars and other stuff so I couldn't get to see it first. I got the call at noon today that everything infront of it was out and I could pick it up. I called up a couple of buddies and grabbed my winch and car trailer and headed out. When I got there I had to send somebody back with another truck to pick up my flatbed becasue I ended up with another trailer full of parts including a complete bed, doors, rear fenders, 8 extra rims, steering column and a bunch of parts I haven't even gone thru yet. There is a 2 bbl on it so either the intake and carb have been changed or the original motor has been swapped out. I already checked the VIN and it is a real 79 Lil Red. Now I have to decide what I am going to do with it. I was so peed off I just backed the trailer into the barn and left the truck right on the trailer. I stored the extra parts in one of my storage trailers.

Can you use parts from the '79 to finish the '78? The '78 models are more desireable anyway.

The 78 is a complete truck. It only has 68,000 KM's on it. Some moron painted it black then traded it in in 1981 and I bought it from the dealer before they did anything to it. I stripped it down and then it got put on the back shelf in 1983 and I have never got around to finishing it. The reason I bought the 79 is I want one of each. My ultimate goal is also to have two black 4x4 Warlocks of the same years. I worked at plant one in 1978 and 79 when we were building these trucks so there is also a little sentimenal value with them.

The '78 Lil' Red is my favorite truck of all time. I know of several in my area and I always try to keep tabs on who owns them in case one turns up for sale someday. I lack the skills and garage space to rebuild one on my own, but if I ever found one in good shape for sale around here and the price was right, I'd probably jump on it.

For the $1500 I gave for it the ownership and tags were worth it. I was just told it was in better shape then I thought, but thanks for your brilliant reply :D

The Warlock was built only in 4X4 trim, right?
Yeah it WAS mine when I lived in Fairbanks. It was my daily driver even at -50+ in the winters. Ever drive on flat spotted BIAS ply tires? I felt like Fred Flinstone. I only lived a couple miles from work so it wasn't bad. I mud bogg raced it on the weekends.......IT WAS A BLAST!! It had a 300hp 340, NP 435 4 speed, divorced 205 T-case, Dana 60 1 ton full floater locked axles, 9" of lift 38" Boggers, American eagle 589's. Had to sell it when we moved to Palmer. Was going to start commuting 100+miles a day reound trip. That truck was NOT built to do that. And we needed cash for our house being built. I guess we all gotta grow up (a LITTLE) sometime. I do miss playing in the MUD sometimes.

If my memory serves me correctly we made Warlocks in both 2 and 4 wheel but the 2 wheels were few and far between.

Yeah it don't look that bad from the pics, can't really see the rockers though. How are they? If they're good, it's just a matter of changing the fenders and other such removable body parts. My 72 looked like that too, I changed the bed, driver door and front fenders and that eliminated most of the rust. I bet the floorboards are rusted out in yours too right?

Yes, my 40 was in much worse shape then that when I got it. I was just bummed out because I was told it was in alot better shape then it really was. No big deal, I got more than my moneys worth in parts alone without the truck.

Floor is actually pretty good and the rockers aren't too bad. the cab corners will need some work but I got lots of lead kicking around. Will post pictures when I get it into the shop and get it torn apart, maybe around the end of this week.

I thought I was getting what he told me I was getting, a LRE in decent condition. Its all good, I was offered $2500 for it today from a guy that came out to look at the motor to see if it is the original motor with a 2 bbl on it or if the whole motor had been swapped

Nice pics! Yours? I got my bed from a 2wd True Spirit truck. I believe it was a dealer made Warlock clone. My frame was a 74 Power Wagon, that was about the only thing that was still original on it.

No, I couldn't remember if we made a 2 wheel or not so I looked it up on the net and found those. We have built so many vehicles in Windsor at the 3 assembly plants we used to have that I couldn't remember every option for every plant. When I first started in 1977 I was getting bounced from plant to plant until I had a few years seniority and could own a job. I remember one week when I had about a year that I worked at the van plant on Monday painting vans, Tuesday and Wednesday I worked at the truck plant painting Red Wagons and Warlocks, Thursday I was at Windsor Assembly painting Cordobas, Magnums and Furys and Friday I was back at The van plant painting vans. As soon as they found out I could paint I was utilized at all three plants.
