the AC compressor put a lot of drain on the engine, dropping the revs slightly. (you'll notice a slight engine bog when you turn it on) Neon engines arent the smoothest idling engines in the world, some vibration is normal. Mine will vibrate slightly up to around 2500rpm. If your car is shaking bad enough to rattle pennies around in the center consol, then I'd worry about it, if not, its probably normal.

How sure are you the belt is slipping? check the belts, see if theyre tight.

whell it doesnt shake enough to rattle pennies but i just noticed it was shaking more than usual. and also i think its the belt cause i hear a screech when i start going from a stop sometimes. i checked the belt and it doesnt seem to be loose or anything. i may just have to replace belt?

When your ac is turned on the Idle should be adjusted up a little by the PCM to keep it running fine. It might just be the extra strain on the engine that causes it to jump around a bit during idle. Maybe the ALT is being drawn down to much when the car isnt makeing RPMs and charging fully. It could be several things. If your belts are weak/loose/worn it can cause it to squeel.

How long have the belts been on the car? If it's been 30 k you should atleast check them really good if you don't change them. If the car has 100 k on it you might want to change the Timeing belt before it snapps causing you to bend valves with the top of your pistons. A small price to pay for a lifetime of drivin. I hope someone here can help you with your problem. Good luck

would any of that have anything to do with my trouble code p0441... something having to do with my gas cap apparently. its been 30k mi. so i should probly get a new belt?

I don't know what code P0441 is! lol The gas cap? Hmmm. Vapor lock maybe. It's up to U on the belts If they look bad or if you are unsure if they are good or not, replace em belts. The charging system might have something to do with it. If the belt is loose
it can make it run like POOO. Good Luck!

I think that code is the fuel evap purge canister... nothing to do with your problem.

As for belts, is the squeeling worse around a corner? if so, i'd say PS/AC belt (scrawny v-belt, likes to jump off... right ACR98? LOL) if not, probably the alternator belt, easy to tighten, but a pain in the arse to get to. Check your motor mounts, specifically the front motor mount. They are known to tear, and that would cause increased vibration with load at idle. (I cant believe i didnt think of that before... duh) If thats not it, and you decide to change belts, check the AC pulley. It should spin freely, if not, your pump is probably shot (another known problem on neons). PS pump is also on the same belt, but they usually dont have problems. I think my crank pulley was slightly bent before i swapped to the UDP, theyre just press fit, so if yours is off a little it could cause vibration, but should be full time, and you'd be throwing belts like i was. Another thing to think about... the 2.0L Dodge engine, although smoother than its american counterparts (i.e. ford/chevy), is no where near as smooth as a jap 4 banger, you'll always notice some vibration.
